The Purpose Of National Honor Society
Like any other high school student I have always put much thought into my future. Where I will be in a few years? How will I get there? What are the steps and sacrifices I would have to take to reach my full potential? These terrifying unanswered questions have driven me to work my hardest throughout my high school career. With longing for a bright future I was aware that I would be sacrificing hours of leisure time in favor of spending time studying, but I was undaunted by this realization. I acknowledged the fact that hard work pays off, and the only way to make a difference in my life and become the best version of myself was to put a little blood, sweat, and tears into my work. In addition, to committing my time to school I have …show more content…

Students are acceptable because of their ability to stand out amongst their peers. Being a member of NHS means you should serve as a remarkable role model for others. To be an effective role model you need to be able to adapt yourself to certain situations you are faced with. You have to exhibit traits like the ability to commit, lead, and relate to the needs of others. I model as positive role model for others because I possess all of these traits. I am dependable, trustworthy, ambitious, and understanding; continuously striving to do the right thing and putting 100% of my effort into my task. I am dedicated to making sure everything I approach is to my personal standard of excellence. I was able to put use to these traits after being elected Youth Leader of my churches Youth Group. I was given the opportunity of helping people make the right decisions and motivate them to continue to strive for greatness. As a hands-on leader, I tried to instill patience and understandings within my fellow members and to inspire them to continue to do the right thing even outside of …show more content…

Within the month of February while my teacher was away on maternity leave, my French class was given a new substitute teacher that would replace my original teacher till she returned. The teacher we were given for the time being seemed inexperience. The class that I was once eager to attend became a part of my day that I dreaded. Every single day I sat in class doing nothing and listened to her constantly yell at the students that chose to misbehave. Things began to become routine, students would sit in class doing nothing as she yelled at the students who purposely disrupt the class. I felt compelled to do something about this, I could not continue to sit around and do nothing for another 2 months. So I respectfully told the substitute to either ignore the disruptive students or kick them out of class because they were wasting class time and interfering with the learning of the students that wanted to learn. The disruptive students being immature took this as me trying to challenge the teacher and completely blew my whole comment out of proportion. This I assume embarrassed the substitute to the point where she felt the need to write me up to the disciplinary officials. I do not at all regret speaking out although having to receive the consequences. After, the incident class became more productive and I eventually began to final learn

Service is the reason I would be a good candidate for the National Junior Honor Society because I have volunteered in the past and would like to volunteer more in the future. I like volunteering because I enjoy helping people. I would like to join the National Junior Honor Society because I like school, I like to study and I would like to do more volunteer work. One of the things I did was volunteer in the World Refugee Day. I drew designs on people’s hands with henna, I also distributed water to the people who were there to watch, and I gave raffle tickets to the people who were participating in the program.…

Being on National Honor Society and sports teams throughout high school, I had enjoyed participating in many volunteer experiences before coming to Drake. Every year our basketball team would collect food around our community to be donated to various food drives in nearby cities. With only general assumptions about food pantries, I always wondered how they worked. Now, after being able to volunteer at the IMPACT food pantry over the last few months, my original assumptions about food panties has transformed. The service-learning class I took this semester challenged many other perspectives in my life.…

This is something I am very proud of, for not giving up even when times became difficult in my seventh grade. My fifth grade year was when I first earned a 4.0 G.P.A and sixth grade was the first time I was ever student of the quarter. I remember my sophomore year being a Rotary student of the month, for the math department. We ate at a restaurant called Giuseppe’s and the food was amazing. It felt like a dream for me. I still remember the taste of the food and it makes my mouth water every time. Situations like these were the ones that made me want to keep striving for my goal. I have not received an award like that in a while, but that doesn’t mean I will give up because I know that when I graduate, all my hard work will be worth it. This is why I am working hard, I want to try and earn as many scholarships as I can so I won’t have to take out too many loans. I don’t have enough money to even pay for college on my own. I will be the first in my family to graduate from high school and go to college. My plan to go to college will stay this way, hopefully until the end. Even if my major changes in the future, all that matters to me is that I graduate from college. However, my desire for graduating is so high, that I feel as though I will go through no matter what happens in life. Thank you for your…
