It always took her ten minutes or more to settle down. But she never completely stopped talking and disrupting other students. I gave her nonverbal clues when her talking became too disruptive but she never acknowledged them at all. Then, I tried to use verbal interventions and had her stay after class. I discussed what was acceptable and what was not acceptable in my classroom. It was like I was talking to myself with this student. Her main goal in my room was to be the most disruptive person possible. As time went on, I finally had to call home for her behavior. The behavior improved slightly after discussing this with her mother but quickly reverted to the behavior before. I then tried using logical consequences with Mary such as having her apologize to the class about her talking and disrupting others. I had her stay for detention afterschool like I do for my young students. She had not remorse at all. I thought that maybe she need the attention so I tried to ignore the behavior at this point but it only got worse. By the end of the third nine weeks she was completely out of control and she and I knew it. Her behavior was totally unacceptable in my classroom. I finally resorted to a conversation I do not
