There are several theorists that links within my key issues, these are:

Burrhus Skinner – He believed in a thing called operant conditioning. He believed that there are three different opperants that can impact our behavior, these are:

•Neutral – this is experiences from the environment which is not likely to effect the child’s behavior

•Reinforce – responses from the environment that can have an impact on the behavior being repeated reinforces can be a positive or negative experience.

•Punishers – this is were the responses from the environment that will lessen the chance of behavior being repeated.

I believe that this would link into my key issues as when promoting positive behavior by reinforcing the child in

As some children may be statement e.g. ADHD then they may find it more difficult to concentrate than others. The settings policy should cover children who have challenging behavior and all those who's behavior is linked to a disability such as ADHD and Tourette's, as these children will not be able to follow the same guidelines for the behavior and would need an individual behavior plan. As the policy should ensure that all children are treated equally by then the practitioners should make sure that there is something in there for those children who are statemented and can not help their behavior. It is important that the child's needs and interest are put first because if a child feels valued, safe and secure they are more likely to have a good relationship with the practitioner so this would make it a little easier to promote positive behavior. The most effective way to do this is by having good communication skills with the children and then build on your trust. Once you have done all this things such as the reward chat should be easy to put in place. Practitioners should also be aware of different factors that could be effecting the child's behavior such as parenting styles and early development. When dealing with children with challenging behavior practitioners should also take into account the culture and …show more content…
He or she may not be the only child and could have may siblings so the challenging behavior could be from having to fight to get someone's attention. A way that practitioners can overcome this is by making sure they take the time out to communicate with this child but also make the child understand that there are other children within the class who would need help so they have to be patient. Practitioner should also be aware if a child have come from a single parent household or if their parents are divorced because this can have an effect on their behavior. I have seen this within my setting as one child would behave from Monday to Thursday but come a Friday he would not listening and misbehave and we found out it was because he goes with his dad on a Friday until Sunday. It is equally important if a child does not have any siblings. This is because he or she may not know how to share or communicate with other children. I have seen this within my setting as a child who came in was an only child and they did not like sharing toys or even playing with another child. So because of this the practitioner then set out activities such as circle time and story books that explain the importance of sharing and making friends. This then helped to give the child the understanding that sharing and making friends is a positive thing and it helped encourage them to share and play with

E1) As a practitioner, you would be expected to form professional relationships with many different people within the setting. In a childcare environment there may be a child who has behavioural problems, effective communication would then need to take place with a behavioural therapist in order to ensure the child has their individual needs met. As a practitioner it is highly recommended that they should develop high standards of communication, as it is required in all aspects of working with children. Communicating with the child’s parents is very important, and because the parents are the child’s first educator/main carer, it is important that their wishes are met and understood. As part of skill to be able to communicate effectively with parents, it is necessary to build up trust within that professional relationship because; the parent might not feel comfortable talking about a problem with the practitioner and this might affect the child badly if it’s based on them. When building up trust in a professional relationship it is important to be honest and specific when speaking to parents, so they understand your point of view or what you’re talking about. Keep the child’s parents informed of any meetings, events, child’s progress, any problems and school trips etc… This is good because then the parents know that the practitioner is interested in getting their children into a good experience and enjoy it. If parents are of a different culture or language, the practitioner should provide newsletters and letters to parents in their language to allow them to still be a big part of their child’s education/experience within the setting. All documents should be translated so the parent has easy access and can read them well.…

Practioners should try to use short and quick explanations of work and instructions; they should try to keep the child interested by engaging them in many activities. Ensuring the child’s welfare and safety is important we make sure they are safe by carrying out risk assessments and stopping children swinging on their chairs and running with scissors. We do this because if a child falls when they have the scissors they could be badly injured aswell as the swinging on chairs or someone else could get hurt. Using physical punishment is wrong because the child will grow up thinking violence is acceptable and use it themselves. Instead of physical punishment use strategies such as time out because there are plenty of ways to teach children what is wrong and right. Showing compassion is important the child needs to feel that they can come to you with a problem and if you are not sensitive and compassionate they will not feel like they can confide in you. This is important because when a child is upset they need someone to come and talk to and they will go to the person who is compassionate. Respecting a child’s confidentiality is important because they have a right to it. If a child comes to you with a small issue then you can talk them through it but if it is a major issue for example bullying or abuse then tell the child’s teacher. In the setting you should provide a safe environment that facilitates independence in learning.…

In this unit I will explain six potential hazards in a Health and Social Care setting. These hazards in the Health and Social Care setting can all affect the people working in that environment; there are a lot of hazards which can be found in every surface of the setting. In a residential or day care setting, much is done to ensure that service users, and therefore staff as well, are protected from harm. The group of users I have chosen are elderly people with Dementia and the environment I will be assessing is a Care Home. The hazards that I have chosen to write about are very different as some hazards are safety hazards and security hazards etc. I will write about…

One strength would be that it good have a positive impact on everyone else, for example of a child sees another child being praised for being good then they will be good to get praised as well. Another r strength would be that the child will be happier throughout the day and will enjoy schooling slot more as they will be able to focus on their work more. However one of the disadvantages could be that some children may not be interests in what you are trying to as they just enjoy having the challenging behavior and think that what they are doing is good. Another disadvantage would be that the parents may not follow through with it at home, so the setting could be putting in all the hard work to help the child behavior improve but then the parents are just letting the child do what they want when they are at…
