was a “preppy good kid,” even if Martin was fresh out of jail for stealing diamonds, Zimmerman did NOT have the right to shoot.
Although the reading was quite repetitive, I did enjoy the multiple opinions that came from this case. Others I saw as completely irrational, my most disliked comment came from Rivera, who said black and brown parents shouldn’t allow their children to wear the hoodie. This to me is so stupid, how about we change peoples minds instead of feeding into their worries. For example, how crazy would it be to tell all people of Muslim religion that they should stop expressing their faith in fear of being accused of terrorism. NO! How about we teach people that terrorism does not equal Muslim. The same thing goes for rape survivors, do not tell a survivor that if they would of done *insert unimportant action or item here* that the outcome would've been different. Instead let's teach our kids to not rape.
My two questions out of the reading would be
1. Would the hoodie be considered a culture production? If so is the ideology behind it screwed or does it have value?
2. If Martin would of been wearing a my little pony t-shirt then would of the shooting been justified? Probably not… As a country can we change this standard?
