The unexpected traumas of the world around you can conquer what you may believe is the most suitable decision. The poem “Ballad of Birmingham” is a very emotional poem that conveys many of the emotions that people may have been feeling. It also helps you understand how you might feel if you were a mother or a child at the time when there was a lot of racial violence going on around you.
Throughout the poem, it is showing the reader how determined the children were to fight for what they believed in, more so than the adults. In the poem “Ballad of Birmingham”, the author has chosen the mother and daughter to be the speakers in this story. He has put this task upon them to show the thought process of the two and the connection that the little girl has with her mother during this time. With the author doing that, it helps show the connection and bond between the mother and her daughter, as well as the thoughts that were going on in their minds about what could happen. This poem really stands out because it is trying to get forward that racial violence can cloud your judgement. It is saying that even though the mother thought that sending her child to church to sing with the choir would be better for her, even the things that people will do because of ethnological differences are unknown. This piece of literature in my opinion is written very well and I like the style. It portrays a message of audacity and courage. “Ballad of Birmingham,” is a not only a story but a tribute to all of the children who wanted to fight for their freedom and lost their lives. It is an emotional ballad that the author put together in such a way that the bombing of a baptist church is not what comes to mind, it’s the willingness of these children and the mindset of the people around them that the poem draws attention
