Some of the earliest themes outlined are sacrifice, friendship, and love. Lily and James Potter sacrifice themselves for their son, Ron and Hermoine repeatedly put themselves in harm’s way and always make sure Harry is not alone, and Snape ultimately gives his life because of his love for Lily. In the end, Harry willingly goes to Voldemort to destroy the horcrux within himself. The blurred lines between good and evil are also prominent connotations. Draco, for example, struggles to deal with who he is as he lives in the shadow of his father and family name. He is seen battling with himself, seemingly unwilling to carry out a deed as dark as the Dark Lord’s. However, he does not go as far as to become someone who embodies good either. Persisting with the Malfoy family, Draco’s mother, Narcissa, is a death eater, but lies to Voldemort about Harry’s demise to save her son.
