Intro About Misspelled Words and Vocabulary
Introduction
In making sentences and articles some of the students encounter errors in spelling. Our topic is about the effect of misspelled words to one’s vocabulary. The independent variable is misspelled words while the dependent variable is vocabulary.
What is spelling? Spelling is the writing of one or more words with letters and diacritics. In addition, the term often, but not always, means an accepted standard spelling or the process of naming the letters. In the sense of a standard, spelling is one of the elements of orthography and a prescriptive element of alphabetic languages.
Spellings attempt to transcribe the sounds of the language into alphabetic letters, but phonetic spellings are exceptions in many languages for various reasons. Pronunciation changes over time in all languages, and spelling reforms are irregular in most languages and rare in some. In addition, words from other languages may be adopted without being adapted to the spelling system, non-standard spellings are often adopted after extensive common usage, and different meanings of a word or homophones may be deliberately spelled in different ways to differentiate them visually.
While some words admit multiple spellings, some spellings are not considered standard, and thus labeled as misspellings. A misspelled word can be a series of letters that represents no correctly spelled word of the same language at all (such as "liek" for "like") or a correct spelling of another word (such as writing "here" when one means "hear," or "no" when one means "know"). Misspellings of the latter type can easily make their way into printed material because they are not caught by simple computerized spell checkers.
Misspellings may be due to either typing errors (e.g. the transposition error teh for the), or lack of knowledge of the correct spelling. Whether or not a word is misspelled may depend on context, as is the case with American / British English distinctions. Misspelling can also be a matter

In her article “Spelliing Matter”, Mikita Brottman discussed the importance of spelling. In her opinion, spelling correctly is necessary, but many people don’t think so including her colleagues. Brottman described her experience on a “hiring committee”(1). She noticed some spelling errors in the document of candidate, but nobody mention it. She pointed them out at last, “Two members of the committee still did not see a problem”(1).…

Mikita Brottman argues that spelling on a resume leads to instant rejection on a candidate. Disagreeing to this argument a spelling error should not affect someone’s overall self-image. In the passage the committee states, “Her experience and qualifications seemed tailor-made for the post but also she was a diversity candidate.” This statement proves that she is capable for the position, a few spelling errors should not completely disapprove her for the position. A person on the committee even stated that it was a simple typo. To others on the hiring committee spelling was a little issue and that issue would not fully affect the candidate. If it is just one simple error that everyone finds okay, shouldn’t that be clear that is not that serious. The words were similar to each other, anyone could have made that mistake. That is why I disagree with what Brottman argued in this passage.…

Accurate, automatic recognition of printed words drives the reading process (Morris, 2008). Spelling assessments play a vital role in this process and enhances the development of reading. These assessments also serve as an important tool when assessing the reading ability of students. When attempting to recognize any challenges students may face, spelling assessments are very useful. Dr. Bear goes into detail about spelling assessments and how they provide valuable insights about the reading development of students and goes into detail about the synchrony of literacy development. Dr. Brown also talks about primary and secondary reading difficulties along with the importance of teaching students where they are and at their actual instructional level. As students are assessed on their ability to spell, there are different levels to consider as they complete certain assessments. The levels include independent, instructional and frustration, which help in recognizing how well the students read and at what level the student struggles the most when spelling. Tompkins (2010) states that the choices students make as they spell words are important indicators of their knowledge of both phonics and spelling. With the use of spelling assessments and being able to identify the errors students make help with recognizing student development and making modifications in curriculum to get the students the assistance they need and move them to the correct reading level.…

According to the course text, spelling is one area of consideration in crime report writing (Miller & Whitehead, 2015, pg. 219). The reason is because the spelling area is where mistakes are easily made. The four type of spelling errors are very easy made through criminal justice reports. The first error, is spelling the defendants name wrong, this error is common in reports. The second error, is misspelling words, which is problem since some words are commonly used in the criminal justice system. However, misspelling is still a common mistake found in reports. The third error, is making gross errors in everyday words. This another common error in reports. Lastly, using words that sound the same but have different meanings. All of these…

Writing (and therefore spelling) is a representation of the spoken word. The spoken word is not a representation of writing. Because accents and pronunciation can change easily and quite quickly, whereas what is written in books and dictionaries remains "fixed" for years, as well as for various historical reasons, there is often little correspondence between spoken English (pronunciation) and written English (spelling). English spelling therefore often appears to be totally illogical. The following rules can help me to decode the mysteries of English spelling. whilst remembering, even the best rules have their exceptions.…
