Invasive Species In The Great Lakes

Water is filled with invasive species Water is filled with invasive species that come from all around the world. Invasive species can be anywhere at any time. Invasive species are any type of specie that is found where it is not native to. Invasive species can threaten the new habitats they join. Invasive species can even be from different continents. Once an invasive species settle somewhere it is pretty hard to get rid of them. Invasive species in the great lakes consist of Asian carp, Zebra mussels, and, lamprey. Asian carp are native to eastern Africa they also can grow up to 5 feet long and weigh up to 100 pounds! Zebra mussels are native to Ponto Caspian Sea and are only finger nail sized! The lamprey is native to the North Atlantic Ocean and can grow up to 2 feet long! Invasive species can end up somewhere on their own or be put there by someone. The great lakes are filled with all three of these invasive species. Invasive species are important because there are organisms that end up somewhere they aren’t native to. Native species can come half way around the world and be able to live where they end up. The great lakes are being damaged by over 180 different invasive species. The great lakes are home to many invasive species that are hurting it.
The invasive species are hurting the great lakes and people need to be informed on how it is destroying them. I think that native species are neat because it gives you a look at some organisms that people have to deal with half way around the world. I think it is important to try to keep invasive species out of areas because they harm the ecosystem and the organisms in the water. Organisms are being hurt and killed by invasive species every day and their populations are dropping dramatically and that’s not right.
