Iris In Ancient Greek Mythology

Iris and not the part of my eye, the goddess of the rainbow. Yes, the beautiful striped wavelength of different color light you see after it's rains.However, Iris wasn’t just the rainbow goddess; she was also the messenger of the Olympian gods and the personal assistant to Hear, ( I'm the assistant for the basketball coach) the wife and one of the three sisters of Zeus(I have the three sisters as well). This is why she was usually portrayed standing beside Zeus and Hera, sometimes serving nectar from her jug. Yet, as cupbearer of the gods, Iris was often drawn the same as Hebe (goddess of youth and the cupbearer of the gods ) in ancient Greek art; kinda sounds like what I do as team manager. This explains the double meaning of Iris’s name; Iris, meaning "the rainbow" and Eiris, meaning "messenger". Iris traveled almost everywhere; even the dark underworld. Someday I hope to travel everywhere I could. Moreover, Iris was chosen by the gods to carry sacred water from the Styx (the river of the Oaths) to Mount Olympus for the gods to swear by and if they lie they would be punished. She was chosen to do this because she could move with the speed of the wind. See people who lie always get a little something called karma
Her father, Thaumas "the wondrous", was a marine god, and her mother, Elektra "the amber", was a cloud goddess. Therefore, Iris was also the granddaughter of Gaea, the goddess of the Earth and the sea god, Pontus. The cruel Harpies were her sisters. They were winged female creatures who would swoop down and eat the food of the blind seer Phineas every day. Beyond having a renowned family, Iris was a Greek goddess with many strengths. For example, she was faithful and loyal and had the power of shape-shifting along with many other powers. In contrast, her weakness was that she was defined by her role in life and didn’t have a distinguishing personality. Hmmm…. I wonder who that reminds me
