Is It Right To Lie
Is It Right to Lie? "If you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free,” (John 8:32). When you are able to just tell the truth a huge burden will be lifted off your shoulders, and make your life a whole lot easier rather than a complete mess. Seen through Kant’s eyes, when you’re truthful, not a lot of situations will be difficult for you, but once you become that deceiving and lying type of person, you often will have to end up telling more lies to hide your first lie, which will have you in a web of lies and leave in a messy situation. So why lie when it has been clearly proven that it won’t make things any better. Should you tell the truth knowing you will pay the consequences for what you have done? Not a lot of people today will tell the truth, only to help benefit themselves and get out of whatever horrible situation they have got themselves into. Keeping promises is also something that can’t be held and taken seriously because of the intentions and what will be gained from not keeping any type of promise. Kant’s valid reasons on why lying isn’t right, and why keeping promises isn’t a good idea at all, can be seen through many observations that give us a better understanding of what’s right and what’s wrong A lie is a statement that is always untrue and is supposed to trick or deceive and a lot of the times it is looked at as the right thing to do in certain situations. Examples would include telling the location of your brother from a drug lord who wants to kill him, a doctor telling his or her patient that the chances of surviving cancer are fifty- fifty, when the own doctor is positive and knows that the patient only has a couple of weeks to live. When in a situation where telling the truth is hard in that difficult situation, it almost seems that telling the truth is your last resort because you just can’t help yourself. Kant believes that lying is and will always be
