who would always want to know the truth. He decides to leave the coun- try where he grew up to avoid the prediction of the Gods coming true so that his parents would not be hurt by him. His positively personality makes him a great person and finally brings troubles to him. When his citizens go to him and ask for help, he first sends Creon, the brother of his wife Jo- casta, to their Gods. As long as he tries to solve the problem because he cares and loves his people, the truth cannot be covered forever, and what has happened would finally be found out.
Second, Oedipus has never been told his real birth. Based on the plan of Laius and Jocasta, Oedipus should not even be alive. The kindness of Shepherd who gave the baby to King Polybus and his wife has determined the end of the play. Because Polybus and his wife had no children, they have seen Oedipus as their own born child. It has been their mistake of hiding the original birth of Oedipus, but it is too late for them to let him know. Since Oedipus never knows he does not have the blood of the parents who have raised him, what has been done could not be changed anymore.
Third, the fear of Laius and Jocasta has made decision for them.
They have known that their son would kill his father and marry his mother someday, and it does not make sense for them to keep the child. The original fear of death and incest is not easy to be surmounted. The result of abandoning Oedipus has been made at the beginning.
Last, Oedipus and Jocasta choose to believe what sounds better. Tiresias has told Oedipus the truth because he keeps asking, but Oedipus does not believe him and thinks he is lying. When the messenger comes and tells Oedipus that his father, King Polybus, has died and he is going to become the king of his home country, they are glad about that although they know it is not right, because this news means that Oedipus is not the killer of his father.
In conclusion, the tragedy happens with its inevitability. Because of the personality of Oedi- pus, the situation, the fear of Oedipus's natural parents, and what Oedipus and Jocasta choose to be- lieve, there is not a different ending of Ancient Egypt play
Oedipus.
