Social Construct against Black minorities vs. White has impacted racial tensions throughout world history. For many years we have thought of African- Americans as only as slaves to do work for the whites. African- Americans have been mistreated by white and are human like us no matter what the color of their skin is they have thoughts, emotions, and feelings. We have passed many laws that have created freedoms for African- Americans such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which bans all discrimination, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 which eliminated the poll tax and literacy tests, Brown vs. Board of Education of 1954 considered separate but equal illegal and public schools cannot be segregated, and the Equality Opportunity Act of 1974 prohibits states from impeding student’s right to equal education based on race, color, sex or national origin. In today’s society there are still problems that occur today. Many of the neighborhoods are separated usually by choice but still shouldn’t have to feel like outcasts. Economic problems today have occurred like minorities tend to have two times the unemployment rate as whites and have high levels of poverty than whites.
The media has shown us and documented that society has discriminated against people with different ethnic backgrounds. An African- American woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white and was arrested. This event in history started the civil right movement.
