If only people would put down their devices and notice the world around them, they will see that there is a world waiting for them.

Technology has been used for so many reason. They are a good way for getting information, to get in touch in friends, and much more, but beside that it can actually cause depression, or anxiety. Nicholas Carr mentions in Google Making Us Stupid? that he mentioned to a friend his difficulties with focusing and he friend told him that he had a similar experience (pg.89). These problems can really cause of enough damage to the point where it can harm our everyday life.

In Is Google Making Us Stupid? by Nicholas Carr, he mentions an Italian humanist by the name of Hieronimo Squarciafico because he worries that we are becoming more “stupid”; our mind is weakening due to the easy availabilities we have because of technology. Technology is controlling and changing our everyday lives. I strongly believe Gary Shteyngart in his article “Only Connect”; not only is the I-phone changing everybody lives, but any other smart phone that exists in today’s society. Shteyngart says “With each passing year, scientists estimate that I lose between 6 and 8 percent of my humanity, so that by the close of this decade you will be able to quantify my personality.” He is correct because every year technology changes and advance. Each year people personality decrease in how they act in their everyday life. Smart phones have everything you can possibly imagine. Society is becoming too comfortable and lazy because they have all the answer they need rite at the palm of their hands. Smart phones have become very addicting to the point that people are not realizing the damage it’s doing to them self.…

Technology is hurting people intellectually and socially. Technology influences people to be more isolated because people can now just communicate over social media instead of actually talking face to face. People are beginning to become too dependent on technology. For example, technology is used for maps, socialization, shopping, and even books. People are becoming so attached to technology because they can do literally anything with it. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Montag’s wife, Mildred became so attached to her television set and her “family” that she completely lost her love for her husband. The empty void in her heart is filled with her television and radio. When Montag is describing how technology has made him isolated, he states, “I cannot talk to my wife. She listens to the walls” (Bradbury 78). Mildred became so dependent and attached to her tv that it is the only thing she cares about, even more than her husband. She became so connected with her tv’s and radios that she does not even listen to her husband when he is talking to her. Technology completely took over her life to the point where she became intensely isolated, much like what is happening to people…

First consider how addictive technology has become. According to Sherry Turkle from TED Talk, her daughter spent time with her friends together looking at their mobile phones devices (Ted.com). These kids had so much fun on their mobile phones that they didn’t even look at their friends. On the other hand, technology became an essential part of our lives right now. Most of us spend time with our electronic devices that we forget where we were standing, what we were doing, or what is the purpose and objective of our life. What makes us addicted to mobile phones? Nowadays, we can do almost everything with our cellphones, such as playing videos games, accessing social networks, and watching videos online. These things have become too addictive to us, and we have spent so much time on such devices. Look back to 20 years ago, back when the time technologies were not very common compared to today. Eventually, we spent more time with each other; we hung out with friends. Technologies are advancing so rapidly that we have become addicted and have forgotten what surrounds us.…

From writing letters to e-mailing; going from signing our signatures with pens to signing our signatures via e-signatures. Within each day of our lives there is something new with our technology. People now are less active and rely on the Internet and machinery to do anything for us. Technology is definitely affecting our culture since our generation has changed completely within the years. For example, technology has greatly impacted cellular devices making people more satisfied when trying to communicate with whomever they need to, unlike the past where it would be a luxury to carry those big heavy cell phones.…

How is the evolution of technology affecting us? There are two essays that discuss this topic, Nicholas Carr’s “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, and Kevin Kelley’s “Technophilia”. Carr’s view on the evolution of technology is that it is decreasing our ability to deep read, and therefore decreasing our deep thought. Kelley’s view on technology is that it aids us in a multitude of ways, and desires to be loved. While both men have opposing views on technology, they do agree on one thing, they can’t live without it.…

The other night I had a terrible nightmare. My friend and I ignored each other when we were having lunch because we were both busy texting somebody else. I barely remembered our conversation because it was fragmented. After that, I logged on Facebook, on which I had already spent all my spare time, trying to catch up with my 1000+ “friends”. Unfortunately, I found most of them I barely know or see. Oh wait, it’s not a dream. It’s happening in reality. With the rapid development of communication technology, new methods of communication, for example cell phones and the Internet, are popularizing in daily lives and are replacing the old way of communication – face-to-face interaction. The use of communication technology has had negative effects on daily lives: it destroys the quality of personal communication, causes social isolation and leads to many addictions.…
