Is The Internet Bringing People Closer
Is the Internet bringing people closer together or making them further apart? How many seconds do you think you can live without having the Internet? For most people, I bet 30 seconds is enough to make them suffer. The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, and we have all witnessed its influence on our lives – it has made family and friends, businessmen and their partners as well as clients, and people around the world closer together.
Firstly, the Internet brings people and their dearest family and friends closer together. When the children have to leave their home to stay in the dormitory, when your friends have to move to another county, or when your parents have to leave for work to a country far away, the Internet might be the easiest, fastest and sometimes the only way to communicate with them. Take myself for example, I used to study abroad in the U.S.A., which is far from my country- Taiwan, and thus time difference is supposed to be a serious problem for me to contact my family. However, with such apps as What’s app, Line and Facetime, I can not only leave messages and photos at any time, but also talk to them face-to-face! And what’s more, it’s always free – as long as there’s the Internet! Besides, the Internet brings businessmen and their partner and customers closer together. No longer should partners and managers in different countries spend hours flying through half of the earth just to attend one regular meeting. Instead, all each need are a computer, or a screen, and the Internet! With a simple click and a blink, everyone is in front of the boss, and then the meeting begins. In addition, through websites, companies can present their product and information to their customers 24hr a day. Once their clients have any question, they can reply directly and immediately via the Internet. Businessmen can also promote products to their target consumers on the Internet, where “word-of-Internet-mouth” can often boost sales

As we all know, Internet is enabling technology a powerful set of tools that can be used wisely or unwisely in almost any industry and as part of almost any strategy. Internet can ease and speed up the real time exchange information which gives benefit to the customers, e.g. customers now are easily to find the standard/market price of products from the auction sites. Internet can also decrease some costs of the companies, e.g. eBay auction can reduce the high cost of face-to-face interaction and producing physical versions of information. But otherwise, develop internet purchasing also make more difficult for companies to capture those benefits as profits, Such as it will make companies difficult to promote their own corporate culture, and sometimes it can groom potential competitors(Michael 2009).…

Accordingly, I will argue the pros and cons of the business implications the web has on e-business vs. brick-and-mortar organizations because it is ubiquitous and how we communicate, and our online behavior has led to a tremendous need for a new wave of information. Whether the ground-breaking scheme is an enhancement or travesty, the bottom line is we live in the technological era, and we cannot extricate the effects and causes of internet (web), nor its trepidations and accomplishments.…

“Isolated by the Internet” an essay written by Clifford Stoll pinpoints exactly what researchers believe the internet is doing too much of today’s society. Stoll explains in detail that Internet is breaking apart family values, slowing personal interaction, distancing reality, and robbing personal time. Clifford Stoll has provided evidence that the internet is breaking apart many families and distancing them from one another. For example, Stoll expresses that many parents bring their work home, and spend only six to eight minutes a day talking with their children (106). Furthermore, Stoll states that productivity in the home takes away from playtime that even in our alone time work seeps into even the most intimate of moments (107,108). Although internet is a fast, aid in society it can also slow basic personal interaction “These electronic intermediaries dull our abilities to read each other’s gestures ad facial expressions, to express our feelings, to strike up conversations with strangers, to craft stories, to tell jokes” (106). Clifford Stoll states that it causes a person not to learn basic skills such as how to interrupt, how to speak in front of a large audience, or worst when to talk or be silent. (107) He brings in psychologists and scientist points of view that contradict significantly with those of major computing companies. For example Stoll references to psychology professor Philip Zimbardo who states that technological advances cause shyness which is a basic lack of communication skill, where as Intel stated “This is not about the Technology, per se; it’s about how it is used (105,106). Stoll uses Zimbardo’s personal account to explain computer isolation, Zimbardo will occasionally walk down the hallway and say hello and to some this is shocking and feels it is invading their space (110). The inability to communicate is in part due to the isolation of internet. Clifford Stoll insinuates that…

All my life I have been addicted to computers, and most of the time my urge to be on the laptop has kept me inside and prevented me from playing football and other sports with my friends. The Internet is a big reason why people communicate less with one another. It works kind of like a drug because of the way it controls the human mind. The Internet hinders human interactions because of the way it consumes people’s time, alters their behavior and influences their educational research.…
