“Mythical norm” is the idea of something or someone by society’s perception of what “normal” is said to be. An example would be that a normal woman would be portrayed as “white, middle-class, heterosexual, abled, then, and a young adult.” A “mythical norm” is not normal because not everyone has those physical aspects in order to be a woman. “Privilege” is when a person has more advantages and benefits because of their position in society. One example of privilege that has been discussed in our readings was that of “white privilege” in which many white people have taken for granted that advantage they have in society from those that are colored. It was mentioned by Collins that she realized this when she saw a poor white child and realizing that at least they were not black.

“Prejudice” is when a person judges another person before actually getting to know them and making opinions or assumptions based on inaccurate information. An example of prejudice would be lower-class people feel that all people who are wealthy are stuck- up and snobby. Another example, would be of some American being prejudice against all immigrants because it is assumed that they take American people’s
