Synopsis:
International Technical University (ITU) is an international university with two colleges: one in Oman and the other one in UK. ITU is looking to upgrade its Learning Management system (LMS). The main purpose of this case study is to highlight the recommended LMS for (ITU) and explain all the changes and challenges to upgrade the current LMS. Two main things we should consider in the upgrading: the users and the requirements of this system. The users in ITU are students who don’t have technical background and limited experience in using the computers so the system should be user friendly and easy to use. Regarding the requirements ITU currently using outdated LMS which occurred some problems that affecting the students’ satisfaction from the LMS. The current LMS problems are:
System crashes.
Students are facing many problems in accessing information from LMS.
Slow in processing the data.
ITU required some new features in the new LMS like new reports, screens and fields and information about the latest technology, research pursuits, events etc. students can achieve everything in one click. Of course the new LMS also should provide faster proceeding speed.
The recommended system for ITU is Moodle because it has been recognized as a Top 100 Learning Tool by the Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies. Moodle landed at #12 in the Learning Tool category and was voted the #1 leading Learning Management Tool for 2014. Also there are many reasons to select Moodle like:
