Power: Good or Bad? The TV series "Glee" is about a High School chior group that struggles through every day situations such as relationships, sexuality, and social issues. Not only does this show focus on the choir group, but on the entire school demostrating the immense differences in power opon each student. the show establishes a great deal of Marxist/Social class critcism which is the focus on the way characters behave and treat others based on their class. Glee exposes that if you make a lot of money you will be happier, more powerful and certainly more sucessful. One of the first scenes in Glee is Will Schuester pulling into the parking lot of William McKinley High School. Wills car is obviously very damaged, with parts hanging from it and paint chippings. Will is a spanish teacher clearly not making a lot of money. Later on in the episode Will's wife actually complains and tells him to become an accountant. Basically, shes trying to say that even though teaching is his passion, he should do something he doesnt love so that he will have more money, making him more sucessful and her more happy. Another scene in Glee shows Will minipulating Fin to join Glee club. Will takes drugs and says he found them in Fins locker. Will tells Fin that if he doesnt join the Glee club, Will will have to report the drugs which will get Fin kicked off the football team and Fin will be in a lot of trouble.the reason he wants Fin in the glee club is because Fin is popular, which leads Will to believe that more popular students will also want to join. In this scene Will is abusing his power as a teacher to get Fin to do something. Will is also demostrating that the more power the glee club gains, the more successful they will be. The opening scene of Glee is the cheerleading team practicing. The team is completely in sync with one another. As soon as the cheerleaders make a mistake the coach bellows orders at

After his near death experience with getting ran over by a train, he is told that is god’s doing by the Presbyterians. Will questions what God’s will really is for him. To have his question answered he goes to the only person who won’t look down on will for asking, his grandfather. Will asks him “Am I alive because of God’s will?” In which the grandfather responds with “God gave you a brain.” This is an important response because it shows that grandpa believes God doesn’t do everything and isn’t everyone’s personal genii. Without the near death experience, Will never would have learned to question what he has been taught which a sign of coming of age is. These new ideas gave Will new way to look at life. This can be connected to Sartell High School’s system as well. Though Sartell does not have such a drastic case, there is no denying that the school has both popular kids and wallflowers. The athletes are typically the respected kids at Sartell but the club members are the respected ones at Grace Hall. Acceptance into clubs in “Reconstructing Amelia” can easily be compared to Sartell’s royalty tradition. In order to get into a club at Grace Hall, one needs to be selected by his or her peers. At Sartell, homecoming and prom royalty is decided through a voting process. Inevitably, the kids at Grace Hall with a lot of connections will be ‘tapped’ by the clubs. The kids with a lot of connections and friends at Sartell will be voted into royalty. I would also compare Amelia’s identity crisis to students at Sartell. By joining the Magpies, Amelia ends up succumbing to peer pressure and carries out actions she would normally avoid completely. This is seen every day at Sartell High School. Students put on a mask while around their friends and beg for their approval. A blogger in the book even says “Since there are 176 definitions of the word loser on urbandictionary.com. Don’t Be a Statistic” (McCreight 1). This post just proves that peers push others to not be themselves a.k.a. losers. ☺ At school, a…

    Cosi Essay

Cosi, composed by Louis Nowra, is a minimalist play contextualised by the Vietnam War which emphasises the characters and their growth. Cosi explores the distinctive ideas of illusion verses reality and the concept of “madness” in a comedic and innovative way, through a variety of dramatic techniques. The device of a play-within-a-play of Cosi Fan Tutte, develops an effective dichotomy, while highlighting the dramatic verisimilitude of the values presented in the outside and inside worlds. Lewis, a young, inexperienced radical and director of the production undergoes an extensive transformation during his participation in the opera as it becomes a catalyst for both him and the patients. The problematic nature of what is considered “normal” highlights the “insane” normality of existence, which enriches the principle of drama.…

It is that popularity is ultimately unfulfilling. This is proven in multiple ways by Heather, Melinda’s “friend”. Heather friend-dumps Melinda so she can fit in more with the Marthas, a popular group, but at the end of the year regrets it and comes bellycrawling back to Melinda for help. They have one last conversation in Melinda’s room when Heather asks for Melinda’s help decorating the venue for prom, where these words are said: “... she hates being a Marthadrone... ‘This whole year has been horrible- I hated every single day’” (Anderson 177). She is Heather, and Heather is bemoaning the fact that she is a Martha, saying that she hates it and that the whole year was horrible. Heather hates being a Martha, being “popular” because the Marthas make her do all the work. Doing all this work, though, has negative impacts on the rest of Heather’s life. As Melinda finds out, “Her grades are all the way down to Bs because of the time she has to spend waiting on her Senior Marthas” (Anderson 177). This shows how being popular can permanently affect you, and damage other parts of someone’s life. For example, bad grades and being a servant for the Marthas, or being preoccupied with something else, can lead to being very stressed, and stress has lots of negative impacts. Also, bad grades in high school can lead to stress over college, which has even more of an impact on someone’s life. These pieces of evidence show that popularity is unfulfilling for everyone, and will not help anybody later in…

This quote means that you have many moments in life that are simply just to take up time and carry one throughout the years but memories are much more important and stay in one’s head forever with no time limit. This quote is significant to the two novels Rush Home Road and Kite Runner because each protagonist has a past that they carry with them throughout their years. Their memories of tragedy are with them forever and there is no way of escaping them permanently. In the novels Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens and Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the protagonists, Addy and Amir, are constantly drawn back home by recalling difficult memories, through adoption, and with the idea that they have a mission to complete.…

Fox introduced a TV show called Glee in 2009 to showcase the typical high school experience with a little twist. Every week there is a new theme the show tries to tackle and focus that is a prominent social issue such as “self acceptance” or “sexuality”. It was intended for youth audiences but has grown to be loved by all ages. It is a show on television that we as Americans have never had or experienced before. It is in your face about social issues that need to be confronted immediately and doesn’t seem to shy away from anything. It conveys messages and helps shape peoples’ opinions on stereotypes and the characteristics that are associated with these stereotypes. By portraying reality through typical high school students lives, Glee tries to construct social realities in American life by focusing on gender, sexuality, and culture.…
