The story is about a young male, named Greg,who suffers from disorders such as depression. Greg is slowly getting worse due to his imagination going wild with the bizarre thoughts. Most readers can sympathize with Greg and how he is feeling. Without first person perspective we would not know why or what he thinks about what he is about to do. Plus, We would not know his connection to toy soldiers. Greg shows schizophrenic qualities such as a toy soldier general talking to him in his mind. For example, “‘Hey soldier, what’s the matter? I can’t sleep and I can’t eat sir . . .’”( 29). Without this view , we would miss all of the information the general gives. We learn that Greg has trouble eating and keeping his food down.
