George Eastman, JP Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, and Andrew Carnegie were all Captains of Industry. One reason that makes many people think this was that they were all philanthropists. A philanthropist is someone that donates lots of money to various organizations. John D. Rockefeller donated $500 million in all. This money went to the University of Chicago, the Rochester Institute for Medical Research, the General Education Board, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Another philanthropist is George Eastman. He donated his money to dental clinics, the Eastman school of music, scholarships and internships for engineering students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tuskegee Institute, M.I.T, and Hampton. He also founded the Medical School
at the University of Rochester. Andrew Carnegie was also a philanthropist. He donated to public education, the Carnegie Corporation, various museums, and the Carnegie University of Technology. These men were all Captains of Industry because they donated tons of money to different organizations to benefit their community.
