A professional hockey referee’s antics and a controversial call jeopardize his chances to get signed with the NHL.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:

MARK RILEY (28) is a professional hockey referee. His goal is to be signed as a referee with the NHL.

It’s a new hockey season and Riley and his buddy, JOHN O’DONOVAN, go on the road. They first stop at Mark’s ex-wife’s house to visit his son, TOMMY. There’s clear hostility between Riley, JEANNIE, and her new boyfriend KURT. Riley leaves Tommy a whistle and tells him to blow it loud when Kurt and Jeannie are in the bedroom. Riley reassures Jeannie that next year he’ll be in the NHL and he’ll be able to buy Tommy what he needs. Jeannie doesn’t believe him. She heard this story before.

The other refs have to pull him off. Riley is fined. He learns that the NHF is making O’Donovan an offer. Dejected, Riley sees a flyer for a comedy night contest. He decides to enter and he wins.

Riley learns he’s not going to be asked to join the NHL this year. There’s always next year.

It’s the final game of the season. Riley continues to make his calls. He’s even forced to make a “major.” When a goal is made, Riley calls it, but the captain protests. Riley sticks with his decision. Everyone supports Riley’s call. The game ends. The year is over. Riley is about to leave, when he’s stopped by a fan. Riley prepares himself, but the fan tells Riley that he’s the best. They really like him.

After partying, Riley heads to his room. He stops at an open door to see a bunch of mascots having a drunken sex orgy. Riley silently closes the door and just walks on.

Riley tells Brianna that he’s sticking around. Six months later at an NHL game, a linesman hands off a puck to the ref – the NHL linesman is Dean. O’Donovan golfs in Hawaii. Riley leaves the Gillette factory after his shift. He calls his son to arrange a visit. He arrives at Comedy Night at a restaurant featuring Lenny Gavin. Riley goes to shake Gavin’s hand, but instead Gavin hands a confused Riley his drink. Riley’s the new kid on the block now and Gavin wants his

There once was a noble young man who was renowned for his awe-inspiring abilities in the goal box. He laughed in the face of evil and smiled with mirth when given any challenge. Any challenge, but one. The fated Penalty Kick is one of the toughest things to save from going in the goal. You see, this young man's name was Sir Stephen the Red and he was the goalkeeper for his kingdom of Nolnia. All the citizens throughout the land knew him to be the greatest goalkeeper to have ever lived but, in the depths of Stephen's heart, he constantly quelled his terror at failing on a PK. However, Stephen still knew that he was the greatest at goalkeeping in all the land so he shirked the fear on his heart and continued as though all was well. During a rainy training session a few weeks later, an unknown player showed up to practice and announced himself as Sir Strikes-a-lot The Wicked. Now Stephen wasn't one to be impressed by smack talk, but the player walked straight over to the team and said he would let somebody attempt to humiliate him by shooting a Penalty Kick against him in front of the whole team. Taken aback, Stephen asked what the man's terms were. The man replied with the counter that he would be allowed to shoot a PK exactly one year after if Sir Stephen missed. Stephen laughed and immediately took him up on the challenge since he reckoned that if anyone were to stand a chance against the Wicked man's shot it would be him. Granted that he had to miss first, which simply wasn't an option.…

The largest hockey league in the world is the National Hockey League. The league was introduced in 1917, and originally had only five teams. Today it has grown to far greater proportions, now boasting 30 teams, each with an 82 game season, and if a team makes the playoffs, there can be up to another 28 games played on top of that. "The NHL is an elite league that houses only the best players from around the world" (History). The rules used in the NHL are generally used as the standard all over the world. Each game consists of three 20 minute periods, with an intermission between each period. If at the end of this 60 minute game there is a tie, there shall be an additional 5 minute overtime period during season play. If a tie is reached during a post season game, the game will enter a series of 20 minute overtimes, which will only come to an end when one of the teams scores.…
