Imagine yourself in your own house. You have an older brother. You hear him shout, “Little bro! Let’s go hunting!” The words make you shudder, like a wisp of ice slid down your spine. The thought of holding a gun to shoot innocent animals makes you sick. “I don’t want to hurt any animals. I’ll stay here. Please down kill anything.” You say. You hear your big brother’s cruel laugh. “Wimp!” He shouts at you, running past your room with his gun, just to scare you out of your head. You wish you fit into your family, and you were more like them. How is it possible to feel so out of place in your own family? In this text, James states that he wants to go hunting with his dad, just he will be liked. He doesn’t want to kill the animals, but he believes that if he goes hunting anyway, he will feel accepted. In another example, James says that he will work for Dr. Milk, the veterinarian down the road, like his brothers, but in the end of the story, James reveals that he truly doesn’t want to work for him.
