Abstract
This paper seeks to respond to write an analysis of the verbal techniques used by Jamie Oliver to communicate who he is, what he stands for, and what he wants us to do, from a TED talk given by him in 2010. (Oliver, 2010). The report will consider the concepts in each of your texts from authors on the subject of communication techniques. The paper concludes that overall Oliver convincingly conveyed his message even though he was not as polished or practiced as he could have been.

Any accent can have an effect: “we instantly react to the sound of a person 's voice and speaking style…speech makes a definite and instant impression; the emotion (or lack of it), the accuracy of pronunciation…all project feelings of self-confidence or uncertainty, joy or sorrow, aggression or shyness.” (Gross, 2004). Too much pointing the finger at Americans from the viewpoint of being British may well project feelings of aggression or uncertainty. Belittling is not a good strategy for influencing change (McKay et. al., 2009)
His delivery is good – he uses gestures, facial expression and jokes with the audience instead of preaching to them. The story he tells feels like it is more of a conversation than a lecture. Oliver spends little time actually behind the provided podium, has few but important slides and is clearly comfortable in his own style.
