Bronte's Jane Eyre is about love: a strong affection for or devotion to a person or persons (Webster 1070). For instance a dog will at first fall in love with you, and then it will hate you and again fall in love and live happily ever after. Love is a process and you must go through all the steps of this process in order to reach your ultimate goal of happiness. Love is something that we all must endure and desire. For some of us this can even be more of a challenge and perfection may never seem in reach. St. John will teach her this lesson by at first not showing any indication of interest towards her. He says "ill or well, she would always be plain" (318). He does not show any sign of interest yet Jane shows ton. It is Johns apparent likeness to Rosamond that causes him no interest in Jane. St. John wonders "does she like me?" (349). The answer was yes but he could not ask her to marry him because she was not the right kind of wife, so he settled for Jane. He asks her to marry him and do his hubandly duty even though he does not love her. Jane responds with "I don't want to marry and never shall marry" (362). She is thankful to god for her blessing and lives with love the rest of her life. Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre shows Jane going through all the steps of love and proving herself worthy. Her experiences at Gateshed show her how to see love even when it is not evident. Lowood is a similar experience except she learns about god through death. At Thornfield she learns the bad parts of love as well as how it can be a horrible mistress. Love is something most people will never come to understand. It is neccasary for people to read this book and for them to better understand love. Love is something we all need, it is something that we search and long for our whole life. Seniors in high school may not know the best road to achieve love and this book will help them make the right decisions so they don't make the same mistakes as Jane did.
