Jazz Concert Review
Jazz

The latest concert that I attended was the NEIU Jazz Ensemble. It was

held on October 28th, 1997 in the NEIU auditorium. This was my first time

attending a Jazz concert. Therefore, I didn 't know what kind of music to

expect or any music that I was familiar to. This concert was a new

experience for me. It was far different from a rock concert held in some big

venue. The purpose of this concert was to give people a taste of the NEIU

Jazz Ensemble. The heritage or the background of this concert was strictly

I was excited about my attendance at this concert. It would be the first

time I was going to a Jazz concert. I knew that I wouldn 't be disappointed or

get board there. The music they played was not the kind that makes you dose

off. I always loved the sound of a trumpet. My favorite musical group the

Dave Matthews Band has a trumpet player, and this is how I started enjoying

the sound. Therefore, I knew that this concert must be worth going to. This

concert gave me a chance to look more deep into what Jazz music is all

The music that was performed was Jazz. The entire Ensemble had

fifteen people in it. There were only fourteen actual performers. One guy

was the director of the whole thing and he was composing. The composer

composed with his hands instead of a composing stick. This was an

interesting observation for me. The instrument that were used at this concert

were the Woodwinds which had five players on it. This was the most players

in one category of instruments. The Woodwind players were seated in the

first row. Other instruments used were the Piano, Bass, Drums, Trombones

and the Trumpets. There was one vocalist. There were two Trombone

players and three Trumpet players. They were all standing behind the

Woodwind players. The Piano, Bass, and the Drums were on the left side of

the stage. The composer was facing the performers during a

    Salsa Jazz Concert Report

It’s not really the type of concert I would have typically gone to for fun but I did enjoy myself. I think the fact that it was salsa made it more interesting since I am Hispanic. I caught myself bobbing my head to the rhythm, clapping my hands, and tapping my foot in some of the performances. One of my friends was in the concert so it was nice to see him play on the drums and how he had a solo. Also another guy from my jazz class was in the concert and he played very well and it was riveting to see the way he played his solo on the sax. I don’t know if I would ever go to another jazz concert for fun but who knows maybe I would if it was a salsa one. I am glad that I got to go and see this because I probably would not have experienced this if it wasn’t because I had to. It did open up my eyes more to the world of jazz and seeing how different it is to see them playing live than from a computer or just listening to the songs. To see it all happening was fascinating. I would tell anyone that they should go some time in their life to a jazz concert, specifically a salsa one. If I out of everyone enjoyed it than anyone…

The name of the concert that I attended was called “TCU Jazz Combos” and featured a variety of jazz compositions. This concert took place in the Pepsico Recital Hall on November 14, 2012 at 7:00 in the evening. The event was casual; however, I chose to wear khaki pants and a button down shirt because I was not certain as to what the dress code would be. The performers’ names and their respective instruments were Mike Korson- Saxophone, Garrett Wingfield- Saxophone, Luke Wingfield- Trumpet, Alex Neal- Guitar, Edo Frenkel- Piano, Will Gilstrap- Bass, Russell Wharton- Drums, and Tanner Webb- Trombone. During the concert they played various jazz compositions written by some of the very performers themselves. Several other pieces were more well known jazz compositions from internationally recognized artists. The concert itself was not very crowded, with pockets of individuals scattered throughout the audience. There was definitely interaction between the performers and the audience. I found this aspect of the jazz concert to be unique to other concerts. Jazz concerts are significantly less formal than classical orchestra concerts or even piano concerts in which applause is saved for the very end. In jazz concerts, after a solo it is considered appropriate to applaud, even during the middle of a piece. Having never attended a jazz concert before, I found this to be a wonderful learning experience.…

At this event, I saw how people including students, parents, faculty, and friends came together from a tired day to listen to smooth classical music. Music has such a mighty effect on people because it is a universal language. People all over the world listen to music, from pop to folk, and enjoy it. Classical music has a way of permeating the heart and relaxing a stressed mind. For example, at the event, one of the pieces the band performed was Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma. Their performance of this piece demonstrated the culture and lifestyle of French music during the 1900s. As the wind ensemble played this piece, the atmosphere in the room shifted because of the lively tone the piece had. People began clapping and moving along to the tempo of the song and joy entered the entire lobby. Music not only relaxes a person, but it alters their mood as well. I was so stunned to see how one piece of jazz music could create a change in so many people in an…

On Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 PM I went to The University of North Florida’s “Jazz Combo Night” in the Fine Arts Center’s Robinson Theatre. I had never been to a Jazz concert before and I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect since I haven’t really given much attention to jazz or jazz concerts before. I ended up having such a great experience and I even found myself mesmerized at times by the instruments and how beautiful they sounded being played. I am really grateful I attended the concert because I know have a much greater appreciation for live jazz music and even jazz in general and attending a jazz concert is definitely something I would do again in the future. In Combo 3 the songs Feline by Sebastian Pinillos and untitled written by Albie Sherman. Pedro Millan and Sebastian Pinillos played the tenor…

Most concerts are way better in a good size venue. The concert in Michigan has a smaller venue, and there will probably be more packed than the one in Indiana. The venue in Indiana will be larger and more room for the people that come to see the band play live. If we go to a smaller venue than the closer we would closer be in the band. But if we go to a bigger venue then we would have a better view of the band. I would like to see the band while they play, and not the back of people's heads.…

I went to Mr. O’Neal’s second jazz concert today, which took place at a little bit far but very nice jazz studio in San Pedro. There was a beautiful neighborhood nearby, and it was the first time I’ve ever been to San Pedro. I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started, it was a warm and sweet little room. Then I looked at the little stage in front where Mr. O’Neal’s going to perform later, it was just fit to everything. I like the design of the stage: they had colorful lighting on five separate pieces pure white background , a new classic piano, a bright blue jazz drum which I like the best, and a set of red African drum, they really made me look forward to the show. My friend also ordered the pizza the Mr. O’Neal recommended, and we were ready to enjoy the concert!…

The concert took place in a musical auditorium. It was just like almost every band concert, on a stage with the lights above the seats being off and all the lights on the band. It was a very formal concert because everyone in the band was wearing nice clothes. The atmosphere was serious and the performers took their performance very seriously. Since I watched this concert virtually, I wasn’t able to see the audience during the concert, but I’m assuming that the audience was dressed formally.…

Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, that concert was a change in the atmosphere. I remember last month going to my sister’s Jazz concert. I remember walking in the theater a little bit late, but remember hearing the sound of the trumpets in the background. As soon as I walked in, I realized that it has totally different atmosphere from what my expectations were for the Jazz concerts. Unlike all the other concerts I attended, this concert intended for small audience, probably around a hundred people. Also, this jazz concert seemed very relaxed and comfortable. Most of people were dressed very casual, a lot of them were the kid’s parents and they were wearing jeans and shirts. But the musicians were dressed in suit and dress in all black. I remember that in a…

Upon entering the Valley Performing Art Center, I was greeted by an usher that was handing out programs. The auditorium had large curved pieces of wood on the roof for better acoustics. On the stage was a large backdrop with numerous amounts of different colored lights shining on it. The stage was oriented in such a way where each musician could be seen. The band consisted of a piano, vibraphone, guitar, bass, drums, and an ensemble of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, flutes, and clarinets. The audience sat in seats in front of the band on the first floor and I was seated near the front. The show started with the John Daversa giving an introduction of the show and the special guests. Throughout the concert, special musicians got to come to the front and play solos into a microphone.…

Taking everything into consideration, jazz makes me want to move. Depending on my mood. Sometimes I feel like relaxing by listening to the music and letting it run over me. This concert inspired me. Due to the variety used by the musicians in dynamic, rhythm, tempo and many other characteristics of the music. As I said before, this was my first jazz concert. I enjoyed the whole experience immensely. The concert was pure entertainment for my whole family. It was also enlightening to me as a newcomer to the jazz concert scene. Personally speaking, I loved the concert. David Scott and his band were incredible and made a lifetime jazz fan out of me. I would highly recommend going to a jazz concert. For my second live concert review I decided to attend a live event that was being held at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus on Thursday October the 25th. It was to be performed by students who are in an active jazz group at the school. The jazz ensemble consisted of three consistent musicians with a different vocal artist for each song. The director of the recital was Dr. Timothy Brent who was also the pianist for the evening. On the bass was a man by the name of the Dale Posey. The final member of the group was Rodolfo Zuniga…
