EYES OF A NURSE 2Through the Eyes of a Nurse Every shift as a registered nurse care must be given to the patients whether they are young, old, sick, or healthy. Jean Watson’s theory describes caring as a mutual, reciprocal, spiritual, force connecting both patient and nurse to facilitate self-discovery and awareness (King, 2016). Patients deserve to be cared for by their personality outside the hospital walls not the diagnosis they earned after entering. I entered nursing with the attitude that caring for my patients meant administering medication, testing, and procedures. Over the years that changed, my attitude is now aimed at using knowledge and skills to appreciate the uniqueness of each patient to provide appropriate care (Hines, 2017). After taking into consideration the patient as an individual and not only their disease my actions began to change as well as the care I provided. Art of Caring Caring is brought to the nursing field through words, actions and even art. As described in the picture nurses care for their patients by administering medication, testing, procedures, relaying information, etc. It is hard to determine what the nurse is relaying to the patient however based off the patient expressions the news is not the best. Supportive nurse-patient relationships play a significant role in achieving positive health outcomes for patients and family members (Schub, 2017). Developing the trusting relationship with the patient will help
