Every experience of becoming a new person is different. That experience is mean to be there to teach the audience the moral of the story and a lesson to the character. Its different cause and result makes the story distinctive. In a story something that can be expressed as a trip or as a voyage is the new realization that a character discovers about them or people that surround them. This usually comes across as an epiphany or a change. Authors typically tend to pay a lot of attention to that.
In the short story named ‘a walk to the jetty’ by Jamaica Kincaid their main character’s name is Annie. During the story she was showing a strong desire to be free, to separate from her family and start a new life in England. It was clear that she was seeking independence and wanted to find her own identity.
Annie is at point in time where she experiences a lot of change. This important, life changing decision she is making would completely transform her life but it’s just the beginning because after all of this will she will become a mature grown adult.

The audience realises that the theme of independence is shown when she says that she rather be living with seven unruly men than continue on with her current life, this evidently shows the readers that she is desperate to leave and she knows that she has to take advantage of this opportunity or she will never leave Antigua.
