“The hitting never hurt. It was a joke. None of us cared. We lapped it up”- inappropriate teaching style”…
Blue made sure to see that the students were receiving positive feedback. When each of the students entered the room, they retrieved their binders and all sat down quietly. Each of the students were very respectful to each other in that whenever someone raised their hand to speak, they were the only ones who spoke. There was no character development program or a posted set of rules displayed in her classroom. In her classroom she did the majority of the talking while the students listened and answered her questions. In the high school classroom, there was quite a bit of talking and disruption among the students in the beginning. There were many students who were up and walking around while he was discussing the homework. There was no character development in the classroom. Mr. G didn’t seem tell really be listening to his students, one student had to repeat his question three times. Each teacher provided a way to show respect and understanding to their students, and then the other showed a class room that didn’t have much respect for each…
It has been a very long journey between now and the beginning of my journey as a 1st Dan Black Belt. To start off, I would like to thank Head Master Wayne Steinmetz, Master Frank Mueller, Master Tina Curtis and all of the other Black Belts in The McHenry Flying Dragons for giving me this opportunity to continue on and achieve my goal to becoming a Black Belt. As my journey went on, I have realized that I have changed a lot just from becoming a Black Belt instead of a colored belt because when a Black Belt comes into play they wake up to the fact that they can be a role model as they grow into Kyuki-Do more and more. I, on the other hand, have experienced that feeling; my mom has been working at a school for 17 years being an aide and finally a green stripe from our school she said, “Hey, Easton, guess what? There was a little boy named Danny and he was practicing his form during recess today.” She also said, “I asked him, who you learned that from?” The little boy said, “A Black Belt from my school, his name was Easton.” When my mom told me that story it made me feel so happy inside because there was a lower belt looking up to me, as if I was his role model.…
The teacher ignored most of what was going on and mostly focused on teaching what she was obligated to do for the day with no disregard to the students that wanted to learn. I found that there was a lack of classroom management for the same reasons as the climate. No assertion in rules, no discipline, no rewards, and not trying to get the class out of there cliques to work with others. What I learned from observing this class is to make sure there is always classroom involvement and to communicate with the students.…
And then there were the scenes of the schoolchildren, helping one another, holding each other, dutifully following instructions in the way that young children sometimes do; one child even trying to encourage a grown-up by saying, “I know karate. So it’s okay. I’ll lead the way out.”…
1. Describe the social classes in the Middle Ages. Which class did not exist during this time period?…
There was an older adult that told them to stop arguing and pick up the food. They then argued over who should pick it up. So, I came over and asked them, who was going to be the bigger person and they both raced to pick it up first. This showed how these students wanted to be treated like adults. If I had not connected with these students earlier I may not have been able to resolve this situation. This displays how important it is for young children to have a mentor or role model to talk and engage with. Through the various interactions I have had with students thus far, I have learned to be humble and grateful, and to connect with people because there is so much to learn from others.…
My name is Mark, I am fourteen years old and I received my Junior Black Belt in November 2008. Since receiving my Black Belt there have been many changes in my life. In November 2009 my mom and I moved to Jobstown, New Jersey. This is about thirty minutes away from the Medford Amerikick studio. Before we moved I lived ten minutes away; near all the close family I grew up with since I was a baby. Since I moved to a new town I had to change school districts, I now attend eighth grade at Northern Burlington Middle School. The fact that I stayed committed to taking karate during this time shows my…
During my first observation the teacher set up a Jeopardy game for the students to play to review all they had learned so far that year. The students were separated into three groups and had to work together in their group to pick and answer a question. The first class got into an argument and he stopped the game to talk to them about working together…
Becoming a Black Belt has been a dream of mine since I first came across a similar sport, Kung Fu, when I watched the 2010 The Karate Kid. Although Kung Fu and Taekwondo are not exactly the same thing, to the 11 year old girl who had never seen this sport before, I was very much intrigued by it, and thus started my five year journey to becoming a first-degree black belt. I first started Taekwondo under Master Kevin at American Martial Arts in 2012. Walking in for the first time, I felt discouraged seeing my class filled with little kids almost half my age and size. However, I continued in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a black belt.…

People came up to me asking why I was talking to Coach Carty, but my response was the same every single time “Oh, we were just talking about practice and what we were going to do.” By the time all of the players were in the locker…
Finally it was time to go in to the meeting. I had walked in there and I saw a fake tree in every corner of the room, and a circle of chairs right smack in the middle of the room. There was a table against a wall that had coffee and snacks on it if we got hungry, or thirsty. We all sat down in a circle as a group. The instructor introduced herself, and told us how much she appreciates us all here with her. She then gave us the topic of the night. The topic was “What you are improving in your life?” After she had told us about what the topic of the night was going to be, she asked that we go around the circle and everyone say there name, and why they are here. Every time a person said there name and why they were here, everyone said…
The leader goofed off with the group and they were having fun. They reflected on the previous week and they had assignments they were supposed to do. A few of the members were very talkative and the leader would call on several group members to include them in the discussion asking them about their week and what was going on in their lives and goals they had.…
