In the story of Job, we learn from the very beginning that Job lost all his life stock, and lost all of his children. In response to this news, Job reacted with gut wrenching words, causing him to be very depressed. He was in a state of confusion and sorrow over what he believed was God's personal attack on him. Job believes with all his heart that he did nothing to deserve this attack on his life (Job 9:15-23). Theses tragic events happen at the hand of Satan because he argues that Job's was righteous and obedient because of God's wall of protection was around him.…
According to the Bill of Rights, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Nowhere in the First Amendment does it state that in times of war, the government can change the laws that have been made to protect the people of the United States. Although some thought President Wilson’s actions were just, he did not abide by the rules of the First Amendment, and because of that, he went too far in limiting people’s civil liberties during World War One.…
Hello Monique, great contribution to this delicate topic in discussion. It must have been very difficult for you to argue for a topic that you personally oppose. From your personal point of view, I truly agree with all your argument about the negative consequences for nurses working 12 hour shifts. On the other hand the article you posted in favor of 12 hour shift did not do a good job supporting its arguments with other evidence based facts. I was also a little confused about the scenario you shared and its correlation to working extended long hours. I will be glad if you can enlighten me further on that correlation. I am currently working on an inpatient psychiatric unit and I will testify that working only 32 hours a week for 4 days even…
In Jack London’s short story, “To Build a Fire”, the setting is more than just a setting. It functions as many different things. Including, creating meaning by expressing the scenery, and by letting the reader become aware of the animal’s thoughts. Characterizing is another way the author used the setting. Weather was the truer antagonist in this story with its temperature and snow-hiding dangers to try and defeat the man. Even with everything against the unnamed man; his ignorance, meaning, and the weather he still keeps going past the point of return.…
On December 3rd, 2015 I was lucky enough to have a job shadow at POET in Sioux Falls. Im very happy that Kirsty Jackson gave me a job shadow here because this was one of the most fun experiences that I ever had. I showed up to my job shadow at around 10:30, and right away I could tell that this was going to be a fun time. Within minutes of being inside the building Katie Wiseman greeted me and showed me down to the room where my job shadow took place. Once we got settled we asked each other a few questions to get to know each other. Once we had been aquatinted she began to tell me all about the work that she does at POET. She told me that she was the talent manager at POET. When I asked a question about Human Resources, she told me about how POET uses a system called C.A.R.E. She explained that CARE is more than just human resources and that it caters to the…

“You’ll always miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” ~Wayne Gretzky. It is important to take a stand for what you believe in because that is how change happens. If nobody took a stand, then the world would still be ran by kings and monarchies. For example, during the 1700s in modern day eastern America, back when England ruled the colonies, people took a stand from England and won. Everybody thought it was going to be a cake walk for the England super power, but the colonist won.…
This week I went out onto the field with my task manager. Even though I feel comfortable talking with clients by myself, I still like to get more experience shadowing other caseworkers. Earlier in the week I observed caseworker Teresa Freebourn, and her many different client cases. When shadowing her, I understood Teresa Freebourn’s methods when engaging with clients. I notice she has awesome interviewing skills when engaging with children and youth. Terri’s rhetoric changes depending on the age of the young client. I was exposed to a different set of interviewing skills this week as well. A caseworker by the name of Erica Dixon asked me if I wanted to go out onto the field with her. I of course wanted more field training, and told caseworker Dixon I would go with her on a case. When she explained to me the severity of her case, I understood why Erica may needed more assistance from someone at our agency. I observed a different set of interviewing skills when I went out with Erica than what I was used to with my task manager Terri.…
A dead end job is when you work some where that has little to no chance of being promoted to higher paying position. The term dead end job usually uses toward people who work in fast food or their some type of clean up person. When people usually think of Hospitality Industry, they immediately think of hotels and restaurants. Nevertheless, the true meaning of hospitality is way broader, according to Oxford English Dictionary; hospitality means “the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors and strangers with liberality and good will.” The word hospitality comes from the French word “hospice”- this word is related to hospital, also referred to an early form of what we now call nursing home. (Barrows, Powers, & Reynolds, 2012, p.4). Therefore, hospitality is not all about hotels and restaurants but also for places which offer shelter and food, in other words “a home away from home”, this also might include casinos, clubs, cruise lines and the list goes on. (Barrows, Powers, & Reynolds, 2012).…
