Joe Bump Monologue
5016 It's the year 5016 and I'm afraid the world may be coming to an end. I'm Joe Bump and I have reasons to believe that my brother Bob Bump is trying to take over the world. Bob and I live underwater. This probably sounds crazy, but humans have evolved a great deal in the past 3,000 years. We’ve been living underwater for as long I can remember. We used to get along just fine until... Gunner. Gunner is Bob’s pet eel and he is the ugliest creature I have ever seen in my life. I adopted a dolphin named Henry at the same time he brought in Gunner. Now Henry will help me save the world.
Needing to come up with a plan I jumped upon the first one I came up with. Bob’s mansion lies at the bottom of the ocean and I believe that is where
his control center is located. Being an inventor, he needs a room where he can retain and controls all of his inventions. If Henry and I can arrive at the control center, then maybe we can shut down his invention and save the world.
Traveling through the ocean, it took us 3 days to find it. It was enormously bigger than I imagined it would be. I begin to swim toward the house, but Henry stops me. Taking a second look, I realized sharks were swimming around the building. If Henry didn’t stop me they would have chewed me to pieces! I need a plan to enter the building. If Henry would swim out into the open all the sharks will swim towards him and I would have time to get into Bobs mansion. As much as I hate to put him in danger, it’s our only choice.
Henry swims out and within a second the sharks are after him. I swim as fast as I can to the front door. Once I enter I look to locate where Henry is but I can’t find him. I can see sharks, but that’s all. Then I see him. He's still just as ugly as it was the first day we met. It was Gunner and behind him was Henry. Sinking down into the sand.
Now I am furious. Swimming as fast as I can, I storm through the halls busting open every door until I find the control room. I swing open a metal door and see Bob, sitting in a swivel chair looking at security footage. Picking up a garbage can and instantly I throw it at him.
He dodges it and asks , "Why are you doing this?"
I question, "What are you talking about? You are the one trying to destroy the world!"
He yells "I am not trying to destroy the world you are!" Trying to understand what he just said I scream at him in confusion. We talk for a while and discover that we were both wrong. Both of us accused each other of the same thing and neither of us were doing it.
Telling each other we were apologetic, we talked about joining forces, but then I remember, Henry! I turn around and Bob must have known what I was thinking because he says Henry is fine. Before I can turn around I see Henry burst through the door. He was fine! Bob said he ordered Gunner to heal him while we were talking. Deciding we would never again doubt each other, we work together to make the world a better place.
