John Collier The Chaser

Love is a wonderful thing, but not when you’re suffocating in it. The chaser by John Collier is a story about a person or thing that chases after hopes and desires. The chaser also teaches, every choice made should be given thought and the story explains how badly made choices can damage your future. This short story is between a young man named Alan and a wise old man.
Alan is in search for a secret potion, and he finds a wise old man who has what he is looking for; this position that Alan is in search of has a deadly consequence. The first thing the old man speaks about is a deadly mixture that is five thousand dollars. "Here is a liquid as colorless as water, almost tasteless, quite imperceptible in coffee, wine, or any other beverage. It is also quite imperceptible to any known method of autopsy." The old man brings up the love potion and he explains how is it not as expensive as the death potion. "It would be no good charging that sort of price for a love potion, for example. Young people who need a love potion very seldom have five thousand dollars. Otherwise they would not need a love potion." The old man foreshadows that the young man will be come back to the old man if he takes the love potion. "Please a customer with one article, and he will come back when he needs another. The old mans potion can make any person fall head over heels for them. The potion makes the partner over obsessive, from wanting to know there every thought to panicking thinking they have died if they are 5 min late. The partner becomes so obsessive that the man or women would have no other choice then to kill their partner.
