JOHN LITTLE
John Little is a 69-year-old man living within an Enhanced Sheltered Accommodation Housing unit in Glasgow, where he has been resident for several years. I have changed the name of the individual to protect his identity in line with the (Data Protection Act 1998, 2017). Before the unit John lived in his own home in the same area of Glasgow, that he previously shared with his parents until they both died, he has a brother with whom he speaks with once or twice a month due to the fact he lives in Australia. John’s brother Charlie has not been home to Scotland for over twenty years making it hard for John to maintain a proper relationship with him. At the age of 18 John was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia, throughout the rest of his adult life John has battled with this illness and needs regular routine support to help meet all his basic needs …show more content…
First John must be assessed in aid to identify exactly what his needs are. This is achieved with several different medical professionals working together with John. John’s multi-disciplinary team are made up of his General Practitioner, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapist and Support Workers who are all working towards the same goal to meet John’s needs in all aspects of his life and help John to reach his full potential using Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs as a framework. Maslow believed that all human beings have the same basic needs that must all be met in aid to reach our full potential, he put these needs into a heirarchy in which he felt were the stepping stones to sucessfully reaching self-actualisation. By using this model John’s needs can be assessed appropriately and a plan of action known as a care plan can be put into place to help him meet these needs, fulfill his potential and live a healthy prosperous
