John Paul DeJoria John Paul Dejoria is the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems. John Paul Dejoria’s parents were immigrants from Greece and Italy. He started off early working to help out, waking up before the sun was out to deliver newspapers. He joined the Navy after high school, and was soon discharged honorably. After the Navy, he found himself doing odd jobs to make ends meet ("John Paul DeJoria - A True Global Citizen."). Things started to look up for Dejoria once he was offered an entry position for Time Magazine. Soon thereafter he became the Los Angeles circulation manager. In 1971 he was offered a position at Redken Laboratories.
