John Paul DeJoria John Paul Dejoria is the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems. This empire brings in $900 million annually by selling over ninety different products to tens of thousands of salons across the world ( "John Paul DeJoria Net Worth."). The empire is known for its black and white packaging, which is originally from not being able to afford colored ink ("John Paul DeJoria - A True Global Citizen."). John Paul Dejoria represents the American dream to cosmetologists everywhere, he started with nothing- and was even homeless multiple times, and today his net worth is an amazing 4.2 billion ( "John Paul DeJoria Net Worth."). John Paul Dejoria’s parents were immigrants from Greece and Italy. He started off early working to help out, waking up before the sun was out to deliver newspapers. He joined the Navy after high school, and was soon discharged honorably. After the Navy, he found himself doing odd jobs to make ends meet ("John Paul DeJoria - A True Global Citizen."). Things started to look up for Dejoria once he was offered an entry position for Time Magazine. Soon thereafter he became the Los Angeles circulation manager. In 1971 he was offered a position at Redken Laboratories. It was the leading hair supply factory in the U.S during these times, and Dejoria was making $650 a month ("John Paul DeJoria - A True Global Citizen."). Paul Mitchell, who was a huge hair stylist during this time, soon joined Dejoria and together they came up with just $700 to start their dream company. Dejoria and Mitchell literally went door to door, salon to salon, offering free demonstrations. They also guaranteed that if their products did not sell, that they would give a refund with no cost to the salon whatsoever ("John Paul DeJoria - A True Global Citizen."). This type of business has obviously worked; Dejoria’s leap of faith has paid off dramatically and has become a true empire globally.
