The World of Paul Mitchell Systems
Hair care products are always in high demand regardless if it is your basic shampoo, conditioner, styling products, or color. The competition between product lines is obvious when you go to the store and look on the shelves, but most people aren’t aware of what is a professional line of hair care products. Paul Mitchell Systems is a long surviving product line in the beauty industry because; how it began, the unique marketing strategies, leading to the continuing success today. This product line began in the 1980’s by two friends, who met at a beauty convention in the 1970’s, John Paul DeJoria and Paul Mitchell, and both carried a vision of starting a company for hairstylist. This means if you find Paul Mitchell products anywhere other than a salon or distributor, it is counterfeit or black market product. The appearance of the product sells its self, “the black and white labeling of this product is the easiest product to identify, and is also a unisex making this product appeal to the men and women clientele. They used this black and white simply because they could not afford the cost for colored ink when first starting out” (1 Damicone). Although the packaging wasn’t intentional, it actually turned out to be a wonderful marketing strategy in the long run. In the business world, "I have retailed other product lines in the 15 years in the beauty industry, and no product sells like Paul Mitchell. The price for a professional product line is unbeatable and familiar product. It also offers continuous promotions which benefit the customers and my business" (2
