The crucible convey themes of betrayal , death , and foolishness. Arthur Miller centers on Abigail Williams , a troubled 17 year old girl , who starts the main conflicts of the play. Her false confessions of witches convinces the local Puritans that witchcraft is among them. With false confessions , her personal affairs are scandalous. Her relations with John Proctor have an effect on his marriage & his wife. In this essay , I’ll center on Abigail Williams & how she affected the town.
Abigail being so naive as she was she thought the world revolved around her. Being so young & scandalous she was falling for a married man. John Proctor & Abigail relationship intensify with every meet. Proctor mind awaken as he starts
to realize he can’t contire with her. She is also blinded & exempts his emotions for her temptation. Proctor writes, “How do you call Heaven whore” (Miller 873).
Lies & betrayal are practically twins within Abigail. Tituba spies on them and is shocked by what she sees. Her deceit began with the loss of Tituba , the play began with William peers & herself trying to practice witchcraft. They chase after her & trap her in jail. Abigail said, “she made me do it!” “she made Betty do it!” (847).
Lusting over John , Abby mind wasn’t strong willed. She accused Elizabeth of stabbing her in the stomach with a needle to frame her. Elizabeth ended up incorroserrated , because of the lies Abigail was telling. Betty points out that Abby had been drinking a kind of medicine to kill Elizabeth. Abigail obviously had innocent people killed & hanged over something she had caused.
Abigail was a trouble teenager throughout the entire story of the crucible. From all of the characters she was the most twisted & unpredictable for her love of John Proctor. Witchcraft in the town was her main focus of how she destroyed relationships within the people she cared mostly about.
