The Crucible written by Arthur Miller is a play written to compare the Salem Witch Trials to the Red Scare. In the play there were many antagonists and one main protagonist. John Proctor is the protagonist and hero of the play. John can even be considered to be a tragic hero. To be a tragic hero the character must be a noble or great person that has a flaw that causes the downfall of the character which then causes the character to suffer. John Proctor fits the definintion of a tragic hero because he has a flaw(or many in his case), he suffers for it and in the end he overcomes with a tragic ending to follow.
