John Sutter was a captain. He was a Switzerland immigrant. He was born February 15, 1803. He married Annette D’beld. He then created the Sutter Mill. This was used to search for gold. After a while the Gold Rush started to hurt him because his workers started to quit. So this then hurt his business. He then tried to partner with people but they would just cheat him. So he would not lose his land he passed it down to his son John
