lived for. Living in the seventeenth century with a huge difference between the rich and the poor, John the Baptist saw the people as a whole, and that every person is a child of God. Like any other person John the Baptist went through trouble and hardships throughout his life. His parents and siblings died at a young age, but he still remained happy and encourages others to be happy as well. John the Baptist believed education gave hope and opportunity to people to lead a better life. The founder of the Christian Brother school and established teacher colleges. He gave teachers a sense of pride in their work and really encouraged teacher to connect with their students. Brother Leo Kirby stated ‘in short, we have a crowd in some eighty different countries and represent diverse cultures and backgrounds. We ran good schools and are very serious about quality education. We are a no-nonsense group that wants to help the young and their families. We want our students to be successful in life, but mainly we want them to be good people, successful in living.” Brother Leo Kirby also said “we are in poor neighborhoods, harnessing the energies of the very poor and organizing the school, the prison, the parish, or the neighborhood. This shows that john the Baptist cared about all race, religions, and socials classes. His soul mission is to give good quality education to people across the world. At 28 years old John the Baptist realized the hardship of being poor and living in famine.
He gave up his salary to a poor priest and gave his money to feed the hunger. That was the point when John the Baptist truly recognized himself as a Christian brother. Reading this booklet written by Brother Leo Kirby truly inspired me, it taught me to be a good person and to be faithful to god. I am glad I picked St. Johns College High School as a school that will allow me to grow as a person and to challenge/strengthen me to the best person I can be. The mission statement of St. Johns connects with john the Baptist and his philosophy. SJC mission statement “is to provide a human and Christian education to young men and women from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds”. Going into my first year in St. Johns, I hope to excel in my academics and athletics. I wish to continue receiving straight A’s through hard work and dedication, and to be involved with St. Johns community. The classes I will be taking hope to challenge me and to make me academically stronger. I also wish to participate in clubs, such as model UN and Girl Up where I can discuss political issues around the world and connect with students as
well.
