Johnny And Dally Character Analysis
Johnny and Dally: Two Friends that are Similar and Different
True friends, are always similar and different. In “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, the characters Johnny and Dally are two buddies that have similarities and differences between them. These two boys both have neglectful and abusive parents and place little value on their lives. Although Johnny and Dally are somewhat similar, they also have differences between the type of character they are and the image they have after they die. Johnny and Dally are similar because their parents pay little attention to them. Dally’s father never cares about him, which makes Dally think that he can never get caught. This attitude causes him to fall into trouble many times and often with the police. Whether Dally is “‘in jail or dead in a car wreck or drunk in a gutter”’(88), his father ignores him and does not care what Dally does. Dally’s father clearly does not give any discipline his son. After Johnny dies in the hospital, Dally loses control over his emotions. He makes the polices chase him and pretends to shoot them with an unloaded gun. The cops think that Dally is about to attack, so they shoot him down with their guns and kill him. Therefore, Dally commits suicide by making the police kill him. When the narrator of the story Ponyboy, sees Dally being shot, he knows that “Dallas Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted”(154). Johnny’s dead body makes Dally risk his own life because he feels that without Johnny, he has nothing to live for. Without any regrets, Dally knows that he wants to die and he makes it happen. Dally is willing to give up his life for his friend, Johnny Cade who also places little value on his life too. Likewise, Johnny also feels like his life is not that important. After the death of Johnny, Ponyboy reads a letter written by Johnny before he

In the beginning of the story Dally and Ponyboy didn't get along the best. But throughout the story they became closer. Dally’s death happened right after he stole from the store. The cops showed up and circled around Dally under a street light. Dally soon pulled out a gun and acted like it was loaded but it really wasn't. How would the cops know that? They did not know that. After the cops told Dally to put the gun down multiple times and Dally still wouldn't do it so they shot him. Ponyboy took this really hard because him and Dally had gotten very close. Also dally had helped Ponyboy and Johnny out whenever they needed something. So I think that Ponyboy was really mad because he didn't stop it from happening. Also now Ponyboy is dealing with two deaths of his very good friends. “I knew he would be dead, because Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted” said Ponyboy (Hinton…

Body Paragraph 1: The one most affected by these negative labels is Dally because the words they used to describe him is hood, crook, greaser, hopeless, criminal, and heartless. These are incredibly destructive labels because he got so used to them that he does not love anyone back and I think it is because of his label Heartless. Dally even said “He could never love Cherry Valance back” He barely even loved anything I mean besides the gang and he really did not care when Johnny said he killed Bob Dally just said “Good for you.” He is also addicted to hate because he used to everyone hating him or just saying other things about him. I think he needs a quote like this one “Dear haters I couldn’t help but notice that AwesoMe ends with Me and Ugly starts with U.” That quote explains Dally in my opinion.…

Dally Winston’s death was sad for mostly all the greasers. He was a role model to them and people looked up to him. The day he died there was mourning for all the greasers. They had just lost one of their best friends, and Johnny. If Dally hadn’t died many things could’ve happened. He could’ve stayed the same, changed, and the book’s ending could’ve been entirely different.…

Johnny's slow death leaves the gang with loneliness that’s unbearable for some. Ponyboy is in complete denial of his friend’s death, saying, “Johnny was dead. But he wasn’t. That still body back in the hospital wasn’t Johnny,” But Pony later came to accept the truth; that Johnny was the still body in the hospital bed. Lennie’s death leaves George with no best friend and a pain that he may never recover from. Death creates a pit in one’s stomach that, for George, resulted in loneliness, guilt, and regret. Collectively, my group decided on a central theme for the revised script: change. We wanted to focus on how every character went through some drastic change as the script progressed. We decided to start with Kate’s monologue. This monologue was a good way to introduce everyone in the play. It had a dual purpose by also showing Kate’s attitude and personality. In the script Kate says, “3,000 happy Christians, cornbread on every table, and a pickup truck in every front yard.” This line, with the right inflection from Reilly, conveyed how Kate was uppity and had a sense that she was better than the other girls. It helped develop her character and give the audience a sense of who she was.…
