The thing about Dally that would’ve stayed the same, is probably his personality. This is because it is so strong it is just so hard to change. He is tough, mean, risky, and overall a crazy person. These qualities you can’t change most of the time. He dedicated his whole life to trying to be the bad boy of the group, and really get out there. He succeeded doing this because many people were afraid of him, and many people generally loved him. “Dally hated to do things the legal way,” (Hinton 20). To begin, Dally helped Pony and Johnny get away when they were in trouble. Dally told Johnny and Pony “Hop the three-fifteen freight to Windrixville.” “There’s an abandoned church on the top of Jay Mountain.” (Hinton 61). This demonstrates how Dally doesn’t want Pony and Johnny to get put in jail like him, so he helps them get out of town so no one can catch them. Secondly, Dally saved Johnny from the fire at the church. The nurse said to Pony “He burned his arm pretty badly though, trying to drag the other kid out the window.” (Hinton 95). This means Dally risked his life just like Johnny did for Pony, to save Johnny from the fire when he got trapped. As you can see, Dally showed he was a hero during the book.…
