To begin, Dally helped Pony and Johnny get away when they were in trouble. Dally told Johnny and Pony “Hop the three-fifteen freight to Windrixville.” “There’s an abandoned church on the top of Jay Mountain.” (Hinton 61). This demonstrates how Dally doesn’t want Pony and Johnny to get put in jail like him, so he helps them get out of town so no one can catch them. Secondly, Dally saved Johnny from the fire at the church. The nurse said to Pony “He burned his arm pretty badly though, trying to drag the other kid out the window.” (Hinton 95). This means Dally risked his life just like Johnny did for Pony, to save Johnny from the fire when he got trapped. As you can see, Dally showed he was a hero during the book.
Without a doubt, Johnny and Dally demonstrate heroic acts in The Outsiders. Between Dally saving Johnny in the fire, helping them get out of town, Johnny saving Pony from getting drowned, and saving him in the fire, Dally and Johnny showed heroism in situations that could have been dangerous.
