Johnny Cade “The Hero”

There are many things that come to mind when hearing the word hero. Some think of super heroes, but the truth is that super heroes aren’t real. There may not be super heroes, but there are heroes. A hero can by described many ways. Johnny Cade, a greaser, is considered a hero because of his courage, sacrifice & determination.

Courage is probably the most important characteristic of being a hero. Johnny may not look courageous, but he shows the courage inside of him. Johnny shows courage a few ways. One way Johnny shows courage is by saving his friend Ponyboy from a group of Socs that had jumped them. Johnny may have had killed one of the Socs, Bob, but he saved his friend Ponyboy from drowning. Just like in super hero movies where a hero may have killed a villain, but saves others’ lives from the danger the villain was causing. Another way Johnny shows courage was by talking back to Dally, a mean vicious greaser who was harassing

Johnny shows determination by fighting back against Bob & the other Socs that had jumped them. He was determined to save his friend Ponyboy. Another way Johnny shows determination is by going into the burning church. Nothing held him back from saving the kids, not even Dally! He was only focused on the kids, nothing else had bothered him. The last way Johnny was determined was when he was living at the church. He was focused on not being caught by the police. Johnny had even cut his hair and washed of the grease, which was the greaser pride. Johnny was determined to do everything he can for his fellow greasers.

Johnny Cade is considered as a hero because of his courage, sacrifice & determination. Heroes can be described many ways. The heroes in this world are the ones that do good for others. Not having super heroes like superman doesn’t matter, but not having heroes does. Therefore anyone can be a hero, just
