The realization of how powerful education is dawned upon me for the first time when I started teaching my domestic help’s son during my free time after high school. As empowering as it was, I took it as a responsibility to do my best to help him in his studies. However, my interaction with the community around USC has been limited till now and through JEP, I look forward to gaining first hand experience of the same. Coming from India, a country with diverse cultures and traditions, I have come across people following different religions and rituals time and again. Through this opportunity to serve the community and observe it closely, I am excited to learn not only about the economic, political, and social structure but also the cultural impacts and history of these areas. Besides, I am always keen to gain knowledge about the different education systems across the globe. Fortunately, this program allows me to assimilate myself with 2nd graders and learn about the US education system with them.
Although there is nothing that makes me nervous about this experience, my only desire is to make the children feel at home and just as comfortable with me so that their learning can be a truly memorable and enriching
