Joseph's Brothers 'Characters In The Grapes Of Wrath'
Joseph’s brothers were very jealous of him because of differences in circumstances. He was the baby of the family and probably got more attention than his brothers. Not feeling equal in love in the family made for resentment between him and his brothers. Only one brother, Reuben, wanted to save Joseph from doom, but he also wanted to gain more favor in their father’s eye. Guess the main principle in this is to love everyone equally regardless of differences. Also, don’t be secretive in your motives. When you know something bad is going to happen prevent it.

Joseph resisted temptation from an evil woman, which could have betrayed his master and disgrace God. One character trait he has is integrity. He did what was right regardless of the consequences.

Therefore, Joseph used God’s gift of foretelling dreams to win favor among the pharaoh of Egypt. This blessed Joseph with earning second in command of Egypt and gaining his freedom from prison. Also, Joseph used God’s blessing to help all the people in Egypt from famine and bring order to pharaoh’s kingdom.

Joseph had many Christian characteristics that preserved God’s image. He was loyal and faithful to his master regardless his situation. He had tremendous humility with saving thousands of people from famine that enslaved him. Also, He never blamed anyone else or his brothers for his situation of wrong doing. These characteristics are important in leadership and positions of influence.

One principle of leadership I can use is being patient throughout any circumstance that might pull me away from God. Based on my readings of Courage and Calling: Embracing Your God-Given Potential, Joseph had the essential capabilities to thinking vocationally about his calling with God (Smith, 2011). Joseph’s patients, while enduring the pain of being enslaved, came from retrospection of his history “ability to see and appreciate our own stories and the footprints of the Spirit throughout those stories” (Smith, 2011 pg.58). The other principle of leadership is integrity. I see more and more this characteristic disappearing with the technology increase. In the verse, Genesis 39:8 -9 (NLT):

Joseph Simmons is a simple man and is both a major and minor character in this book. He is very close knit with Adam’s family and is good friends with Moses Cooper. Adam states, “He was a blacksmith and had shares in a slaver” (Fast 32). The Coopers, at the beginning of the book, also consider Joseph to be a simple minded, heavyset man with high morals. Adam shows this by saying, “The ship the Simmons brothers invested in came in and made them rich, but Joseph broke with them and remained a blacksmith” (Fast 33). Joseph did not want to become wealthy in that way, so he remained hard working because of his high morals.…

Oppress: to dominate harshly; to subject a person or a group of people to a harsh or cruel form of domination. In John Steinbeck 's masterpiece "The Grapes of Wrath", the Joads are oppressed in many ways. The bank, the "monster", and big business owners are all seen as oppressors. But through this, the Joads remain resolute, in a way; oppression even strengthens the bonds between them, as they continue their exodus to the "promised land". While the maxim is that oppression always has an adverse effect on people, in Steinbeck 's "The Grapes of Wrath", oppression and hardship actually benefit the Joads and those around them.…

In chapter thirty of The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck highlights the most destitute moment of the Joad family during their exodus to California and the transformation of many characters. Steinbeck opens the chapter by describing the flood is taking over the boxcar. Pa urges other men to build an embankment because Rose of Sharon begins to experience labor. While the men work on building the embankment, the cotton tree is uprooted, cascades into the embankment and destroys it. Steinbeck continues to show the Joads’ struggle to overcome the hardships as Pa goes back into the box car, and Mrs. Wainwright informs him that Rose Sharon has delivered a stillborn child. The Joads send Uncle John to bury the child. Because the water level keeps increasing,…

The second character trait Simon possesses is that he is devotedly faithful. He is an enormous believer of God and loves sharing his faith with other people. This is proven during various conversations with Reverend Russell and his best friend, Joe Wenteworth. When Simon is talking to the reverend, he suggests that God made him the way he is for a reason and says, “I think I'm God's instrument - that he's gonna use me to carry out his plan.” The last occurrence when Simon is faithful happens when is continually encouraging Joe to be joyful. Simon claims, “Your problem is that you have no faith.” Joe responds, “I got faith. I just need proof to back it up.” Joe is more of a pessimist and practical person therefore Simon is there hence he can cause Joe be further positive.…

    a. Joseph shows deep compassion to his brothers even when his brothers wanted to kill him. Joseph was second in command in Egypt and could have easily turned his brothers away leaving them to die, but instead he decided to love them and help them through the famine. Envy is the basis for how Joseph’s brothers behaved. It started with them envying Joseph because he was his father’s favorite. Then they were envious of his coat of many colors, and finally they were envious and offended by the dreams Joseph experienced. This envy drove them to sell their brother into slavery, which leads to another theme, diligence. Joseph showed diligence and devotion to God. Even when he was thrown in jail and framed for things he did not do, he still diligently sought God and followed his…

In the film Jesus, Joseph seemed to be one of the most important things in Jesus’ life, but in the Bible, there is almost no description of Joseph’s role as a father. Jesus cared about Joseph very much like his own father just like Joseph loved Jesus as his own. In the film, Jesus became very depressed and didn’t want to go preach to the world without his guidance when Joseph died. Joseph was his role model and Jesus did look up to him. Joseph did teach him how to be a carpenter and taught him how to be a servant to God.…

He once sat down with Darren Dortch to talk about when you ever feel sad read a book, and one the quotes he quoted a book from Joel Osteen a Christian author “Encouragement to others is something everyone can give. Somebody needs what you have to give. It may not be your money; it may be your time. It may be your listening ear. It may be your arms to encourage. It may be your smile to uplift. Who knows? Joel Osteen.” That quote he uses to become successful he uses that so that he won’t forget about the past but the present. Okay, first I’ll start with his childhood. Saint Joseph of Cupertino was born in 1603 in Cupertino, Italy. His parents were Felice Desa and Francesa Panara. His father was a carpenter, but died before his child’s birth. Francesa, unable to stay in her house (and pay taxes and debt), was forced to give birth to the saint in a stable. About 7 years after his birth, he had a vision. “His mother treated him harshly.” (catholic.org)…

I believe that Chief Joseph used many rhetorical appeals and other devices in his speech which helped make it more convincing. His use of logic and emotion makes his point of view very appealing. The use of repetition really helped get his point across and the use of ethos, pathos, and logos made his side a lot more believable because it makes you think and eventually realize that his speech makes sense and it leads you to agree with what he is…
