We are about 6 months in the expedition and we are preparing for our first winter in the new territory. We spent it at a place called Fort Mandan with the Mandan and Hidatsa Indians. There, we met a girl who knew the terrain better than anyone on the Corps. We learn that she is pregnant but the Corps. Of Discovery and I ask her to come along with us. Her name is Sacagawea. A member of the tribe tells us that we need horses for crossing the Appalachian Mountains or as they call it the shiny mountains. Fortunately, the tribe that will give us the horses we need is related to our guide, Sacagawea. This tribe is called the Shoshone.

They think that we are intruders but Sacagawea manages to cool them down and we are able to negotiate. The Corps. and Sacagawea go find the chief of the Shoshones. After a few minutes of talking to the chief, We realize as well as Sacagawea realizes, that the chief is actually her long lost brother. We are able to trade horses for rifles so that the Shoshone could protect themselves. We also realize that we cannot take all our supplies with us because it will slow us down. The Corps. and I decide to bury our supplies and retrieve them after we come back from crossing the mountain. Sacagawea has had her baby and I am becoming very fond of him. It is time to make our
