The first text I would like to discuss with you is the song 'last kiss' written by Wayne Cochran in 1962 and sung by Pearl Jam. Cochran was inspired to write his song after a car crash near his home that killed three teenagers and injured others. Two of the teens killed were a couple and he wrote the song from the perspective of the boyfriend. Throughout the song, Cochran creates a constant mood that consists of the feelings of loss, love, and pain. An example of this mood is when he states, "I held her close, I kissed her our last kiss/I found the love that I knew I would miss."Cochran uses euphemisms to help balance out some of the undesirable moments. eg. He says, "The Lord took her away from me," and, "She's gone to heaven..." to tell this emotional journey and to create the correct emotions without saying how truly unpleasant her death was. Another technique he uses is imagery which is very strong throughout the song. he tries to describe the scene to the listener by saying lines such as, "The screamin' tires, the bustin' glass/The painful scream that I heard at last." He also uses imagery to explain what the boy first sees after the car crash when he says, "When I woke up, the rain was pouring down/There were people standing all around." To enhance the appeal of listening to the song, Cochran uses alliterations such as, "I lost my love, my life that night," and the phrase "... so I got to be good," which appears in every chorus.
My next related text on that relate to journeys is the poem 'The Journey' written by Mary Oliver in 1986. It is a poem about the journey one takes through life in order to become an individual. From the beginning
