Judging People In To Kill A Mockingbird

Atticus Finch from the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine once said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view -- until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”. This quote is a very powerful one because judging people from the outside without knowing them is one of the biggest things people do in this world. This can be seen throughout the streets, schools, movies and even books such as Butter by Erin Jade Lange and Bruiser Neal Shusterman. In those books it shows a great deal about people judging the main characters before even getting to know them which is wrong. Many people see their peers as something they actually are not because they judge them from the outside and don’t get to know them for their actual self. In the book Butter by Erin Jade Lange many people judged the main character “Butter” for being fat and socially awkward. This is a prime example of how people never knew “Butter” but judged him because they didn’t know his full story because they weren't in his skin or had his perspective. In the book a main example of this was when everyone wanted him to kill himself from eating “ Parker’s taking bets on how much I can eat without puking or just exactly how long it will take me to die” (Lange 182). This explains how people could care less how he has chosen to die because of people bullying him but that they care more about placing bets because they don't know him for his actual self and see him as just another face in the crowd. Atticus Finch said you never could understand a person till you were in their shoes and this book showed that completely with people judging “Butter” without knowing his social problems or obesity ones too and could care less how he died or what happened to him because of
