Is Mark Antony an ineffective leader or an effective leader when he manipulates the crowd ? In the book Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar is given the crown to be the leader of Rome after his triumph. After Brutus slaughtered Caesar, Mark Antony turned out to be more flattery where he organized the crowd to go and revenge against the conspirators; Brutus and Cassius for the murder of Caesar in Caesar’s funeral where it was placed by Brutus. Through logos and pathos, Mark Antony is uncovered to be an effective leader, albeit many believed that he is an ineffective leader due to his manipulative acts.
First, Mark Antony reveals to be a pleasure-loving and loyal to Caesar at the beginning of the book; however, he shows to be decent speaker that can persuade people to follow him like how he’s in Caesar’s funeral. Nevertheless, not all of the Romans follow his order and that he is evil when he manipulates the crowd, which is not an action for a leader who is fighting for justice. Through Mark Antony’s speech on act 3, scene 2, he said “If you have tears, prepare to shed them now” (3.2.181) and “Through this the well-beloved Brutus stabbed” (3.2.188). Both part of Antony’s speech is revealing to be the manipulating, like how he says “prepare to shed them now” he is implying the tears for the death of Caesar, and that they should start a fight for justice immediately, and that he did also imply the one who they should kill when he ended with “well-beloved Brutus stabbed” he is using dramatic irony as if Caesar has only experiences Brutus’s love but the reality is that he’s silently emphasizing the one who they should kill in order to make a
