Because their preference for a male baby may ultimately land them in issuelessness because of the lack of guarantee that the next conception would be that of a male one. A couple should try to become matured and responsible parent as a part of their social duty. In this affair they should not think about whether it would be a boy or a girl. A child is enough to bring them parenthood. The approach should be Kantian. According to Kant one should perform one’s duty, whatever consequences may follow. Parents are very often swept away by their emotional decisions and act being influenced by the impact of the cultural settings in which they live. For example, because the neighbour had a son as the first child, so their first child should be a son. Or, the elder brother has a son as the first child. So, they too must go for a son as their first issue. All these types of thinking’s are emotional and away from rational bearings. What has happened with others is not a determining factor for the selection of a male child in a new case. The parent should think in this light whether they should go for a child or not. If they will have a child whether they will be able to afford proper facilities to bring up the child or not. The bearing of a child should not be taken casually. When a little bit of carefulness can avoid conception of a child then why to go for it and think about abortion? If a couple can think to bring up a male child then why not a female child? It is due to the incorrect mental set up of the couple that they think a female child to be a burden on them. They should think about how many children to have instead of the sex of the child. If they will be unable to provide proper facilities to more than one child then they should go for one child only and try their best to provide proper health and education which come under their duty.
