Karkus: Pertopian Legacy
The night sky Karkus created looked much better than he imagined. The ocean of stars sparkled as if following a sharp rhythm. Thin trails of clouds spread and dashed out of the center here and there. And in the center, the milky way was like a bejeweled dark broadsword brought by the heavens to bore through the valley of Earth. This night sky was not his, though. He saw the original painting once from a ruined building. Although it was only for a short moment, he remembered each detail, and to his surprise, an overwhelming sense of affinity had erupted within him. The emotion had forced him to look for the painter’s name, but it was erased, or perhaps it was never meant to be there. The painting was named Pertopian Legacy.

She firmly grasped his hand as they both looked upon the night sky. “This place should be enough. Time is not in our side this time.”
They fell into silence. No word was spoken. No movement was done. No sound was created. They need no words to converse anymore, since they already knew what each would say. Karkus always thought of her, and she did so as well. It could be said that they were already one; both in mind and body. The stars’ sparkle dimmed one by one. With each twinkle, its light diminished a bit. Karkus want them to intensify more; grew to the point that where it cold blind him. However, he did the opposite. The once studded night sky only left a huge looming sword, threatening to divide Earth.
As the stars faded, Nareene began a soft aria. It was a song of an ancient language. He couldn’t understand the words, but the emotion it brought was peaceful. The beginning was a slow-beat and had a long enunciation of each word. Karkus couldn’t help but held his breath. Her voice was so calming, yet it sounded as if she was imploring for something. Then instead of words, she began to hum. This was a rather long pause. Lingering. Drifting. Enduring. Just a like a sailor lost in a cloudy new

Koger’s skyscape painting imitates the Aurora Borealis with the narration of a fantasy story. The soothing gradient of the dark blue starry sky to the pink-white clouds elicits a tranquil atmosphere and strongly contrasts with the Northern Lights, represented by asymmetrical groups of bright colours (yellow, green and pink). Furthermore, there’re two ‘camouflaging’ human faces located in this artwork; one face is on the top right-hand corner and the other face is on the middle left, on the highest cloud. At the bottom of the artwork, there’s a manifest ‘flow’ of horses pulling a chariot. They originate from the bottom right corner (a rainbow marks this) and an anomalous object, outlined in blue, is above these horses.…

We hit a clearing and drop, the world spinning around us, soft grass comforting our throbbing body, the smell. The smell, what is it? It’s new and fresh. We open our eyes and are stunned by the sight. The darkness drowns us, but it is softened by something beautiful overhead; stars, all of them, completely beautiful, each one on its own and every one together. Simply magnificent. We close our eyes and relax, as it seems for the first time in our life, we are completely at peace. Before we know it, its…

She called to him softly from the recesses of his blank mind, already beckoning him to her as he lifted his head above the water and remembered what it was to breathe again. Calling, calling, and he began to move in the direction from whence her voice had come, knowing she'd be there before his eyes ever fell upon her black clad figure in the distance. He knew so many things without quite understanding how the knowledge had come to him. The words that formed his thoughts made complete sense, although he couldn't recall how he'd learned them, or if they'd ever fallen from his lips in the past.…

As I leapt from the window of the dreaded vessel, I vowed I would never be privileged to see the sun as it rose anew. I thought of the past. I pictured my creator and I admired the picture of my fated self-destruction. Death did not scare me. How could it possibly when I already embodied the anatomy of a corpse so fully? Yes, this would be enough for me. To expire upon the diamond plains with the northern waves buried below me was the moonlit future I longed most for. My life had been altogether exhausted of breath and I, its humble advocate, was thoroughly depleted of any remaining will to gratify its pleas of invitation into the world that had so quickly recoiled from my hideous stature. This was to be how it ended. I had now outlasted the only identity that had ever attended to my entity at all. How could one conceivably carry on their everyday occupations without a single remaining acquaintance in the uncut span of the world? I longed for animation’s kiss of farewell as I departed forever from the hatred and confinement of this world. I advanced upwards along an icecap I had recently encountered as I continued my journey into death’s grip of acceptance. I knew full well I would not be missed. Not a soul among me had even granted me the gift or humanity of identity. I walked, nameless, among the masses of earth’s vast expanses. I was unknown, unneeded, and utterly and undeniably alone. As I neared my final resting place, a thought passed through me: What if instead of ended my existence in darkness and solitude, I exerted forth a flame to carry me on past this life? And thus was decided my fate would be that of eternal fire, for darkness was all I had ever been entreated to know of. Reaching the apex of the mountain, I removed my flint and steel from my right waistcoat pocket and struck the two together with such force that I did not know if the rocks would remain intact to themselves. When no spark ignited, I grew impatient and enraged. I must be the only being…

The language used in the poem explores a soft tone of onomatopoeic sounds such as HUMBLY SWAYS SOFTLY lulling us into a false sense of calm as the poem continues and uses harsher strident tones such as CHOKE GHOSTLY BEWILDERED PITY to further illuminate the emotional impact the poem carries. Slessor uses Rhyme to create an intense emotional reaction from the audience through the use of the rhyming pattern ABCB as it creates a sense of flow for the audience.…

“Do you ever wonder silly things?” Astra asked, staring into the black sky. “All the time. What kinds of things do you wonder princess?” Chróma said. “I wonder what it would be like to paint the night sky.” Astra said. Chróma thought about this. “I would love to paint the sky with you.” she said in response. Neither one of them said anything for the rest of the night as they drifted off into sleep. In the morning they woke rather unpleasantly to a cyclops looming over them his large head blocked the sun from their view his single eye in the middle of his face glared down at them. He moved to pick Astra up with his colossal hand but Chróma stabbed it with her sword. The cyclops jumped back and cursed at her. Astra and Chróma tried to run away but cyclops continued to catch up to them. Finally Chróma realised what she had to do she stopped running, she yelled for Astra to run but the princess refused to leave her side. Chróma turned to face the beast and when he came running to toward them she called upon her power of the sky, her birthright from her father and jumped high into the air pushing her blade through the monster's…
