We lay silently in our bed. We look at the blank white walls, the sleeping bodies, and the darkness. Everywhere. We wonder if this is all there is to life or what is being hidden. Certainly there must be something out there different from here, but we are forbidden to think of such things. Every night we close our eyes and we dream of places far away, places where we are happy always, and of places not so dark. We are forbidden to dream of such things.
We close our eyes and drift away until we are awoken once again in to this world.
Today we heard a legend of the ancient times, when the land was free and unmonitored, uncontrolled, unwatched. Another legend of two people who escaped the society …show more content…
We don’t even know if it’s true, but we want it. We are tired of life, this life. We will find it; tomorrow we will leave in the dead of night to the forest, and go. Go until we find something, or go until we can’t go any farther. Now we must rest.
We lay in our bunk, ready and scared. From this point forward it’s either a different life or death, nothing more. We pull on our moccasins and robe, and pray that no one wakes to hear or see us. We slip out the great doors and run as fast as our feet will take us never looking back to see who’s following. We are hurting and we can’t breath, but we don’t care so we keep going further and further in to the uncharted forest.
We hit a clearing and drop, the world spinning around us, soft grass comforting our throbbing body, the smell. The smell, what is it? It’s new and fresh. What is that? A hut? Is there someone there? Thoughts racing through my mind I run toward it, straight to the door. Nervous, we stop when we get to the door. What if no one is here? What if this is just a dream…our imagination? We lift our hand to knock, and rap three times. We wait for what seems to be an eternity. Just as we were turning to walk away the door opens and we turn back to see two people standing in the doorway.
“We wondered when we would get a visitor”, they said. They’re the two from the legend.
Speechless we just nodded as they welcomed me in. We look around and see all sorts of foreign things and we just want to touch everything. Them tell me they have “names”, Prometheus and Gaea. They ask me what we were known by in the society and we tell them, Fair-2990. They give us a name and they call us Artemis, they say it’s comes from the Greek goddess of the wild. They tell us we’re safe here, but then… they tell me something we never would have
